| Bears and Baldheads |

I was readin my bible the other night and I stumbled accross the strangest story in there.
2:23 And he went up from thence unto Beth-el; and as he was going up by the way, there came forth young lads out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou baldhead; go up, thou baldhead. 2:24 And he looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in the name of Jehovah. And there came forth two she-bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two lads of them.
Apparently some kids were teasing Elisha and he got fire-mad. Callin someone a baldhead back then must have been like talkin about somebody's momma. That's the only time I've ever got that upset about anything was when a guy was talkin bout my momma. People make fun of my hair all the time but I don't ever get upset enough to pray for them to get ate up by a bear. Also notice that it was two female bears...that's a whole nother blog..hehe.
As I read that story it just reminded me of how blessed we are to live under God's mercy. Lord, knows I've done worse things that call somebody a baldhead, but God ain't never poured out judgement on me. When I mess up He always convicts me lovingly and gently. And when I ask for his forgivness he's always faithful and just to forgive. Don't we serve a wonderful Lord! I'm about to dance a jig here thinkin about it. |

| When my sister and I were teenagers, one of the greatest cut-downs we could say to each other was "Well, you'll probably marry a bald guy!". (And I did.) |

MulletPreacher, you seem to have the Holy Spirit truly leading you in your study of the Word. I learned from this blog of yours as I had never pondered what being called a "baldhead" in that time and place really meant. And what you said is dead-on with respect to impact. I researched the phrase and found this:
"The word baldhead was a term of scorn in the Old Testament (Isaiah 3:17,24). Natural baldness was very rare in the ancient Near East. So scarce was baldness that it carried with it a suspicion of leprosy."

Keep on preachin' brother!

| Man, brother, you keep it simple, just like the Lord does! I remember when I first got saved how that story struck me too! It kind of made me laugh...of course I felt bad for those poor kids....a harsh lesson in not touching God's annointed...hey! Heard of Mark Lowrey? someone help me out..I don't know how to spell his last name..at any rate, he is a funny preacher, and I think you'd enjoy him. |
