I overheard a familiar conversation recently that accused woman for all the problems of this world. I've heard the accusation before and I know its just ignorance of the truth, but it bothers me. I would like for anyone whom hasn't already learned the truth about this to know it now.
As far back as I can remember, Eve was always blamed for the fall of man. I heard it in Sunday-school, Grade-school, and I grew up thinking that this was a true account recorded in the bible. This account, by the way, is taken from Genesis, chapt 3.
Around 1995, I took a very detailed study of the book of Genesis. It was my own study, using my Amplified Bible, a Young's Analytical Concordance, and various Commentaries.
In that study, it was my intention to question God about every word that was not clear to me. God used my inquisitive and suspicious nature to reveal many truths in that study. One of those truths was about the 'fall of man'.
The first element in the argument for who is ultimately responsible for the fall of man is the command from God to "not eat from the tree", found in chapt 2.
16. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.
It is very important to note that Adam is whom God gave this command to. In fact, at this point in Genesis, Eve has not even been created yet. We read that Eve is formed several verses after this "father-son" discussion.
21. And the rib or part of his side which the Lord God had taken from the man He built up and made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
This account of God giving Adam the command must be considered as evidence leading up to "pinning the fall" on him. But hang in there, this is not the only point for my argument.
The next point I want to make is concerning the authority that God had also given Adam over the Garden in the first place. Go back with me to verse 15 and note that the Lord God took Adam and put him in the Garden to 'tend and guard it'.
15. And the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and guard and keep it.
You will see God reminding Adam about who was responsible and what he was told not to do, later, in chapter 3.
Sure, all three (Adam, Eve, and the devil) will be punished and chastened, but listen to what God says to Adam in chapt 3, verse 22.
Gen 3:17. And to Adam He said, Because you have listened and given heed to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it, the ground is under a curse because of you; in sorrow and toil shall you eat [of the fruits] of it all the days of your life.
Now, I don't know at what point in time that this story got flipped, but even the writers of the New Testament were still recording Adam as the original culprit. Read what Paul says.
Romans 5:14 Yet death held sway from Adam to Moses [the Lawgiver], even over those who did not themselves transgress [a positive command] as Adam did. Adam was a type (prefigure) of the One Who was to come [in reverse, the former destructive, the Latter saving].
It is interesting what Paul tells us about Adam in 1 Timothy.
2:14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but [the] woman who was deceived and deluded and fell into transgression.
You see, Adam was not deceived about what was going on. Adam was responsible for guarding the Garden, his mate, and the things God told him.
Adam was right there when the devil deceived Eve because the bible says that she turned to Adam and he ate,... So He had every opportunity to stop what he new to be wrong, help to keep his mate out of trouble, and guard over what had been told, and the things given to him.
The truth is that so many men today are still neglecting their God given responsibility. So many broken families and children growing up without their father. It breaks my heart and I now it hurts God too.
It was rightfully called the fall of man regardless if some men don't acknowledge it.
I love you. |
