Pastor Tim Lee: I Am

2:23 And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. 2:24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

It's truly amazing to read through the scriptures to see history replayed over and over again. The children of Israel were in bondage to Egypt, under a King that had forgot about how God bless Egypt because of Joseph. This Pharaoh saw the mighty nation of people that had grown up within his ranks and feared they would revolt and overthrow his kingdom. Pharoah had a plan to weaken this nation by destroying the new born males and causing these people to labor hard. The children of Israel begin to seek the Lord God, because of the bondage placed on them by Pharaoh.  Two things happened in verse 24, that really needs to be noted, first God heard their groaning and secondly God remembered his word to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Bondage is like sin, why are the people of God servants to anyone? Their disobedience and not keeping God's commandments  is the hinge to the door that brought them into Egypt. The fact that God remembers is key to bringing this groaning people out of the land of bondage. God has a land flowing with milk and honey already in mind for the children of Israel. How does God bring them out from under the mightiest standing army at that time? Where will the deliverer come from to lead this nation of people?
3:1Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, [even] to Horeb. 3:2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush [was] not consumed. 3:3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 3:4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here [am] I. 3:5And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest [is] holy ground. 3:6 Moreover he said, I [am] the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. 3:7 And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which [are] in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; 3:8And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 3:9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. 3:10Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. 3:11 And Moses said unto God, Who [am] I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? 3:12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this [shall be] a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. 3:13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, [when] I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What [is] his name? what shall I say unto them? 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

This is a well known story of how God called Moses, to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt. Moses tending to his father in law's sheep see a bush burning but not being consumed. Here Moses has his first real encounter with "I AM" the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.God calls Moses by name from the burning bush, God tells Moses to take his shoes off for he is standing on holy ground. Moses in this conversation is told to go to King Pharaoh with a message informing Pharoah to let  God's people go free. Moses being a man eighty years of age knowing that he needed to get this people behind him if they were to be delivered.Moses ask God for his name to give to the children of Israel, because they would inquire your name. God gave his name to Moses for the children of Israel as I am that I am. God's name wasn't "I was" or "I is" but "I Am". God was from the beginning until the present, God will be eternal, Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever . Pharaoh says that he knows not this God known as I Am, God made quiet an introduction to Egypt. "I Am" sent plagues and very hard times on Pharaoh and his people. It took the death of the first born of every family in Egypt even Pharoah's  before he realized that I Am was who he said he was. I Am lead the children of Israel out of Egypt with a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. I Am brought Pharaoh's army out to the parted Rea Sea and let the water down on them destroying the this mighty army. Look how, I Am is revealed in the New Testament.
8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Jesus reveals before there was father Abraham, there was I Am. Jesus was there in the Old Testament, saw in the fire with the three Hebrew boys that would not bow to a false god. Jesus is there speaking with Abraham before God rained down fire on Sodom and Gomorrah.
