Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow (Isaiah 1:17).
I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; and they cry out with a loud voice, saying,
“Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, “Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen.
(Revelation 7:9-12)
This video was prepared by a Turkish man and it fascinated me that someone in Turkey was interested in Indians so I want to share it with you. It is set to a haunting chant. Though I'm afraid I cannot tell you the meaning of the words or even what Indian language it is sung in. (I've also included a few facts about Native Americans at the end of the video). God bless!
Did You Know?
Did you know that many anthropologists believe that Indians traveled about 35,000 years ago across a land bride spanning the Bering Strait from Asia to North America? Most tribes have their own creation story and many believe that Native people originated on the North American continent.
Indigenous people in the United States (and then Canada) were first referred to as Indians because Columbus believed he had reached East Indies when he touched the shores of North America. Today, many people in the USA prefer to call themselves American Indians to avoid stereotypes associated with “Indian.” In Canada, the constitutional term is "Aboriginal peoples" and there are many different categories of people as set out by legislation, policy and the history of the people themselves.
In the late 1800s there lived a great Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce tribe, a Native American tribe in Northwest Oregon. In 1877 the Nez Perce were ordered to a reservation, or special land reserved for Native Americans . The Nez Perce refused to go.
Instead, Chief Joseph tried to lead 800 of his people to Canada. Fighting the U.S. Army all along their 1100 mile journey, they crossed Idaho and Montana. They were trapped just forty miles from Canada. After a five-day fight, the remaining 431 remaining Nez Perce were beaten. It was then, on October 5, 1877 at Bears Paw, that Chief Joseph made his speech of surrender. One of Chief Joseph's recorded quotes is
"We were taught to believe that the Great Spirit sees and hears everything, and that he never forgets, that hereafter he will give every man a spirit home according to his deserts; If he has been a good man, he will have a good home; if he has been a bad man, he will have a bad home."
This is an interesting blog and it brings something to mind. There is a ministry in my area who are seen as a "cult". My opinion is not made up about them and probably never will be. I can support much of their practices with the Bible. In this densly Baptist populated area this supposedly Charismatic nondenominational church is seen as very radical. I have heard many stories but one sticks out. They have been known to stand in front of a business and demand they be give what is theirs in Jesus. Some people seem to think that is really far out there but really it's no more out there than what we did to the natives. We pushed them out of their lands just as this ministry supposedly drove out full neighborhoods. Of course, there was much shooting then. This that happened here was more of intimidation.
Again, I'll state that I hold a neutral opinion on that chruch.
Tyler, you are young but you have the heart to see that an injustice has been done to many peoples, including Native Americans. I'm afraid the example of Christianity shown to the Natives has not been very loving or Christ-like at times and we see the legacy of that today with dystunction and scars of the past. But PTL! God can reach these dear ones created in His image!
Let us all remember to be vessels of honour, peace and love so as not to be a stumbling block to others.
God bless you and I'll continue to pray for your ministry.
Wow Justin!. The world is a small place. Of course, I didn't know u were Choctaw so am glad you selected this blog to read and I'm glad it blessed your heart. Perhaps the Lord can use you to reach out in a special way to your fellow Choctaw members in these latter days. Blessings in Him. Penny
I am sure that God looks down in dispair at all the injustice that is going on and has gone on in the beautiful world that He created. Man 's inhamanity to man is dreadful it not often a case of need but greed.
Thank you for hi-lighting just some of the past injustice of the American people
Liz, you are so right. I'm sure God's spirit is grieved over injustice of any kind. If we wish to be like Him then we must also be grieved and pray over such matters. Before we can do that, we must understand the issues better.
Mike n Laura, so glad you could drop by and that you found the blog interesting. I pray more people would find it so and take time to view the video, especially as Native Americans live all over the Americas and most of the christians on MC are living in North America. God bless.
