Earlier this week I just turned on The Fish a Christian radio station in my city. I started doing some stuff and the song that came on was Motions by Matthew West. I was litteraly brought to my knees in tears and prayer. It made me look at my life and see where I'm going through the motions with my walk in Christ.
I mean, we go to church, we read the Bible, we pray, we sing songs praising God. But is it the motions or is it real desire to be near Christ? Do we really lose ourselves in worship, when it seems like no one else is around and it's just you and God? Do you take time to read the Bible and talk to God because you want to or is it something you feel like you have to do? Do you go to church because you want to or you feel you have to as a Christian?
This song made me really open my eyes and see what I've been doing, and what I need to be doing.
6:5 and thou shalt love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Do we have that love or is it just a routine? The words in the song is what my heart's cry is right now.
~I don't wanna go through the motions, I don't wanna go one more day without Your all consuming passion inside of me. I don't wanna spend my whole life asking what if I had given everything? Instead of going through the motions~
I want to live my life everyday for Christ! I want others to see that difference in me and ask why I'm that way. I want to walk closer with Christ. I want to step out of my comfort zone and tell others about Christ.
Thank You Elizabethbabe, I never heard this before it is great! we will be judged by our motives....did you know that? I want my motives to be LOVE the way God intended them to be, thanks for a great blog! love Stu
AWESOME!!! This truly IS what it's all about!! Stupendous! Bravo! Man, if I were one of your parents and I read this, my heart would just about explode w/joy!! =)
I had never heard this song before. I am thankful for Stu-prince guiding me here. You are so wise young lady, wisdom no doubt imparted by the Holy Ghost in your life. I am thankful for the young ones who love Jesus. -juanita
Thank you foe sharing that. It is an easy "trap" for us to fall into. The people of Israel fell into many times. I am so grateful that the Holy Spirit will find a way to shake us out of our "funk."
Elizabeth, I agree with you completely. This words of this song touch me every time I hear it , I already have regrets in my life and don't want to have more. Following JESUS completely is the only way to help not have regrets. Ditto to what Elizabeth wrote: ~I don't wanna go through the motions, I don't wanna go one more day without Your all consuming passion inside of me. I don't wanna spend my whole life asking what if I had given everything? Instead of going through the motions~ I want to live my life everyday for Christ! I want others to see that difference in me and ask why I'm that way. I want to walk closer with Christ. I want to step out of my comfort zone and tell others about Christ. I thank GOD that we have song writers who are blessed by GOD to bring this message to us. May your life be Blessed ~ Michelle
WOW! That was awesome! The church goes through the motions a lot. We all do at times! Praying we will all get outside the box of traduition, and BE the Church (the Bride of Christ). They’re so many needs in the world that are not being met, because of the complacency. Truly the labors are few while the fields are white unto harvest.
wow this is awesome never heard this song but more awesome I have never been to this site before and I am teaching Sunday Morning on 1Cor.13:1-----God really Blessed me today with this song. Thank you and I want to live my life in God and not going through the motions! Yes very wise to be so young God has touched you and do spread HIM everywhere.
This music is Awesome girls. You will never know how God is using it. I was listening to Motions two nights ago and God had me stop and pray for a person in the middle of it. The next day a friend came into my office and stated she had gotten saved. (I thought she was saved already she could talk the bible as good as any of us.) God is showing us so many church members and attendees are just going through the motions. PTL By the way the rest of the music on the CD is proportional to her life. I had not heard this song before. God is so good! Amen!!!
Lady, I have to say, I just starred this blog earlier not in an effort to not leave a comment, but due to me being speaechless at the beauty in your heart.....
Again, I am stunned by your love for our Savio and pray all may read your openness and become One with God through the gift you gave us in your words pinned I'm sure just like the Bible was...from God breathing on you....
That was incredible and I thank you for sharing !!!!!! It really sums up how (I) ,We all feel and should.
I is amazing what Christian music and Wroship can do to bring you closer to The Lord. On sunday I go to church broken and destroyed from the week and worship helps me to dump all that and move ahead clean as snow.
This will be on the MP3 when I walk for the homeless this year in August.
I can think of many songs that have put my Christian walk into perspective and can even name a few that helped me get back on track whne I was a little too lukewarm in my faith.
I'll save the list for another thread but will take a moent to thank you again for not only sharing what that song meant to you but to upload it so we could experience it too!
Elizabeth, your not going thru the motions. Thank you for pointing out how important it is NOT too. This video and song was what I needed today to help me out of my slump.
this song has touched me also, it is on the radio here allot. It will make me wonder just how far i am going for christ, am i doing the best i can. thank you for sharing, and you got it, stay with that
I've heard this song before well alot actually we only listen to Christian music Spirit 105.3 I was curious what station is Fish? My comment is that if we gave Christ just a fourth of the dedication that we put into our jobs our personal lives or even the upkeep of our appearances our lives would be sooooooi much happier and peaceful and thats with just a fourth imagine if we dedicated 50%,75% or even all of ourselves instead of quoting the song now "Going thru the motions" Thanks for the listen God Bless
Elizabeth,
Thank you for sharing this. It has touched my heart deeply. Going through the motions is NOT enough. OK is NOT enough. Over the past several years I have been going through the motions because I've been in a very dry valley with the Lord caused by choices to follow my own desires instead of God's desires for me. I am taking care of an ill parent and have fallen into the lie that I'm alone in this struggle. People from church have come alongside of me and many people I love are lifting up prayers on mine and my Mom's behalf. Praise God that I have this precious time to spend with my Mom. She was my best friend growing up and continues to be one of the biggest blessings I have in my life. God bless you for surrendering all to our Lord. Don't ever allow your desires to come before His for you. It's not work the consequences you would have to pay no matter how circumstances may look at the time you make the choice.
Love your beloved sister in Christ,
Joanne
'be careful how you walk'. Not a damper but be sober and as it is written "walk in the Light as He is in the Light". Sincere adherence to the Word is all that is required for what you here elect. It may be tough going for some..look at the prophets and others..or breezy sailing. In either case it is commitment, long-suffering and joy that gets us through. All this comes through the Word. "Thy word is a light unto my path..." I'm glad there are people like you out there.
I've found myself lately feeling like I'm just "going through the motions" and I can't stand it. I hear this song on the radio and have that humbling feeling like sooo many other songs that speak to me and just hang my head in shame. I'm trying to get myself right with GOD again and it's as hard for me as it is for any fallen christian to do. But knowing that GOD is forgiving is awesome to know. It is wonderful to hear such strength from someone so young, your faith is a light for others in a world filled with seemingly growing darkness. Your faith strengthens me. GOD BLESS YOU!
Thanks for sharing that. I am a Youth Pastor and I recently heard the song and it has impacted me. I am in the process of having a human video put together for it and I am going to share a message with the youth on it. It is going to kick off a one month challenge I am calling "pray for one month" Where I challenge the teens to find at least one person each week that they do not know and pray for them. It does not sound like much but for some it is. We can't play church any longer. We need to BE the church. The only way to Be the church is to have fruit from spending passionate time with the LORD. So we will provide intimate times of Worship in our services too. Anyways- be blessed as you obey and seek Him.
