| WHERE HAVE I BEEN? Would you believe Alamo? |
|
| |
A few of you have asked about me in my absence from MyChurch. Thank you for your concern. And special thanks to Joey, Grammy B, Lara and Mike for their prayers as I went through a very hard season taking care of my terminally ill Dad way down in the “tip of Texas,” in Alamo on the border with Mexico. I’m home now, enjoying the swans and ducks on the lake behind our small home (ahem to Mike and Rich, trailer) in a high scenic valley in the Texas Hill Country, counting the deer on evening walks, and adjusting to life without my Dad. My experience hasn’t crystallized into anything profound or spiritual to share. At least not yet. All I have is my observation on Alamo. Not THE Alamo. If you saw any of the Alamo movies you probably know that the real Alamo is in San Antonio, not a border town in the Rio Grande Valley 300 plus miles south of there. Why then is this little town a stone’s throw from Mexico named Alamo? Why are the streets named after the heroes of the Alamo? Did Davy Crocket, James Bowie and William Travis found this tiny town? No. Now this is not the official line but it appears someone wanted to rub it in Mexico’s face that although they won the battle at the Alamo, Texans will never forget what happened there, which most believe led to Texas independence from Mexico. In an odd twist of fate probably not forseen by the founders, the economy of Alamo, Texas is now dependent on shoppers with Mexican license plates and the language most spoken there is not English. |

No, I will never forget my own personal Alamo, Joey. Your support was invaluable. Lara and GB, too. I couldn't connect with you very often while there but I knew you were praying. God saw me through it. I can't imagine how I could have coped without His help. And w/o prayers going up on my behalf. It was so demanding and intense, all I had time to do was pray arrow prayers of "HELP!" Kathy and Deb~ Thanks. It is good to be back among my friends on MyChurch. |

Dear Janell, so glad to hear from you!!! Yes, you HAVE been in my prayers. I continue to pray that the dark clouds would lift, and with them your heavy "burdens", both real and imagined.
ps... I have been known to write some pretty ignorant things on here!! (And I'm always quick to apologize when they are pointed out to me.) But I KNOW you know me better than to take offense at my playful comments to Rich, yet just in case.... Some of the most delightful ppl I've encountered on this site have lived in trailers!! And now that appears to include YOU Janell (one of the most intelligent and warm-hearted ppl I know!)

Mike~
First off, thank you for your prayers. They were - and are - being answered. One day I'm sure I'll write about it.
You're right. I do know your heart and I knew you were being playful. I think I provoked you just cause I expected you would say something that would bless me. You outdid yourself. In fact, I am so impressed and blessed by your gracious reply that I think I'll start calling you Sir Mike!
I have a photo of my home I will post when I can find it. You will think it is a "real" house. Some people around here call them Mobile Homes or Manufactured Houses. Now Rich, he says it doesn't matter what we call 'em and how we landscape them and pretty them up with little lightposts out front, they are still "trailers." He also says it's proof I'm a redneck cause I live in a trailer and my husband is my cousin 26th removed or something like that. http://www.mychurch.org/blog/140175/AM-I-A-REDNECK-OR-NOT |

| Oh I learned something new today. I never knew that Texas was formerly part of Mexico though I did know that there are a lot of Mexicans in Texas and I'd wondered why. Now this bit of history would seem to answer, at least in part, my question. I don't know you but I'm glad you are back and am thankful you were able to assist your dad at a very difficult time for the two of you. |

| Janell, I have a mental pic of your home, and it's beautiful. :-) And yes, I 'spose I'm easily provoked, LOL. Love to you... |

I'm so glad you are back and so sorry to hear about your dad. One thing I know, God is an expert at carrying us through the storms; keep looking to Him.
Alamo Tx? Never been there. I've been to Austin and San Antonio (the other Alamo) and I35 has taken me to a couple of neat places in between the two. I love Texas; them's good folks down there... but it can get a little hot for my liking.
Chin up sister, glad to have you back! |

Sir Mike~ Yes, you are easily provoked ... to Christ-like love!
Rich~ We have the best weather in Texas here on the Edwards Plateau. In August it can get hot in the afternoon but it always cools off at night and the mornings are nice. Thank you for the encouragement. And I'm glad you are back, too. MyChurch wasn't the same w/o you. Not quite as "flavorful." And like Mike, Christ's love is always evident in you. |
