It just feels right! How many times have we heard someone use this as justification for a decision that they have made? Or worse yet, how many people have you heard say that they just don't go to church because they don't "feel" uplifted (usually meaning entertained)? Let's face it, we can rationalize our way into or out of just about anything. If we live by our feelings, we can do the same thing. So, where does a Christian turn for his or her internal compass? The Proverbs say that if we humans go with our gut, our logic, reason or feelings, we will choose a way that "seems right to" us, but that in the end leads to death. Only God has the eternal perspective to lead us into truth. And we do not access the will of God by feelings, we do so through God's self-revelation; the Bible. There the Holy Spirit speaks to us of God's will and identity and values and that becomes our informing principle. 16:25 There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. |
