| Chauncey Bailey Saga Reaches NYT |
|

This morning, the online edition of The New York Times posted a story that summarizes the Chauncey Bailey affair. The hard-copy version of the story appeared in Sunday's edition of the newspaper. The focus of the story is the reporters/friends of Mr. Bailey who formed the Chauncey Bailey Project after his murder, and how they had the time to conduct a very labor intensive investigation. This story is a clear and concise summary of the criminal activities of Your Black Muslim Bakery, the mis- mal- and non-feasance of the Oakland Police Department, and media economics at the turn of the century. The story is a little too self-congratulating. But it does accomplish much: by putting this crime story in the context of the issues of media downsizing and the growing economic crisis of the past ten years in the news industry, finally puts into context the importance of fiscally healthy news media for the average consumer/voter. I hope you enjoy and share the NYT report. |
