There was no other good enough to pay the price. Jesus was the only one who could pay the price for our sins, the only one who could appease the wrath of God.
As He prayed in the garden"If it is possible take this cup from Me neverless Thy will be done." He took the first drink from the cup when all the burden of sin fell on Him I know I have an awful heavy feeling when I realise I have sinned ,and Jesus took not only my sins but the sins of all creation since time began until He returns, and even through this He healed the servant's ear. He drank more from the cup as the soldiers abused Him,whipped Him and spat on Him. Made to carry the cross tired and weary beaten sorely he drank more from the cup. Nailed to the cross He drank the dregs of the cup and cried "It is finished" the cup was empty,God's wrath had been appeased in full.
He only could unlock the gate of Heaven and let us in
