I had a bit of a suprise after church on Sunday. My wife's parents finally returned from Florida, so they picked up their two cats and I got to put my guitar stuff back into the office that we were using to board them. Then later when I opened the case of one of my guitars there it was -- a huge crack in the soundboard running across the entire length of the face of the guitar. I haven't played this particular guitar since January, so I don't know if it just got kicked around too much when we were rearranging stuff for the cats, if it was just to dry in the house this winter, or what. But there it was.
I tend to anthropomorphize my stuff a bit too much, so I immediately thought that the guitar must be horribly depressed. "I'm broken! I can't be played anymore!"
I know at least three people that are feeling a little bit like that guitar -- that their flaws are going to prevent God from using them for what He made them for. But that just isn't true. I hope that they read this and are encouraged, because when I picked up the guitar and started to softly play it rang beautifully -- maybe even better than before (the crack may have made the soundboard less stiff). And when I started to sing this is what came out:
Child of God (Capo 2)
Am G C
Can you hear Him sing -
F C F C G
I love you, let me love you more
F C F C G
I love you, let me love you more
Am G C
I loved you from the beginning
Am G C
And I'll love you 'till the end
Am G C
Even when you don't want me
Am G C
And when you come back again
F C
You are a child of God
G C
An heir to the king
F C G
Beloved by the Lord
F C
And even when darkness falls
G C
And you can't hear Me sing
F C G
Know I love you more
F C F C G
I love you, let me love you more
F C F C G
I love you, let me love you more
