This is easily one of the most beautiful and moving verses in the Bible. It also seems so simple, but from day one we are told to abhor sin. How can we love sinners and hate their sin simultaneously?
It's difficult, but it seems safer and more fulfilling to err on the side of love. "Love thy neighbor" is one of the 10 Commandments, and God says that the punishment for breaking one of the 10 Commandments is death. There are no amendments to this imperative.
You are to love everyone as God loves you. That means everyone!
You don't need to love sinner's sins, but you need to love and cherish them as human beings because they are the children of God... and your brothers and sisters in the eyes of the Lord.
So next time you move to judge someone you disagree with, think about whether or not you are really so righteous as to ignore one of the most fundamental tenets of our faith.
15:12 "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
15:13 Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
