Isn’t Christian fellowship a great thing? Do you have a good church family? What do you do in that fellowship? You probably spend time together, praise God together, help each other materially, provide accountability and also pray for each other, right? Well, catholics like fellowship too…. They just include the Saints of old into that fellowship J We praise God together, they provide us with their example and with accountability and they pray for us… pretty good friends! Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, the other Eastern Christians, and even some Anglicans (which is about three quarters of Christendom) are ok with talking to these “deceased” people because we ROAR in happiness “they are not dead! They are not dead! They are Alive in Christ!” "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"(1 Cor. 15:55) for Christ said “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” (Jn 11:25-26). Ok… I gotta breathe. I got excited…woo… Any way, one of the things Saints do for us is pray for us. Intercede. Eeekk!! “But Ali, remember 1 Tim. 2:5! ‘ there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus’ ”… and to that I say… AMEN BROTHER! YEP, there is ONLY ONE MEDIATOR! AMEN TO THAT! And I am willing to die for all wondrously beautiful truth. Yep Now a question… if Christ being the only mediator between God and Man means that St. Francis can’t pray for me I ask you… how come YOU can pray for me? I mean, what is the difference between you praying for me and St. Therese praying for me? All Christians pray “In the Name of Jesus,” and in that way we acknowledge and abide by his unique Mediator role… and so do the Saints. When St Therese prays “please God, bless Ali, she really didn’t study for this test and doesn’t deserve an A, but at lease help her pass” she adds at the end “ and I pray this in the name of your most precious Son Jesus Christ.” So yeah… its real nice to have a bunch of holy people giving you advice and praying for you and being your friends… it makes a HUGE difference. There is other fun stuff about the saints, like who is a Saint exactly? What is the difference between a “Saint” and a “saint”? how does the Church decide who is a saint and who ain’t? but this post is too long already… Plus it builds up suspense ..ha! until the next time in this your favorite program “Creepy Catholics Explained!” |
