12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Quotation: “Unanimity is worse than censorship. Unanimity forces us to repeat the truth of others even though we don’t believe it. It dissolves our own personalities into a general, monotonous chorus.” –Luis Aquillar
Motivation Ideas: Unanimity is defined as: “the state of having the agreement and consent of all.” Unanimity puts pressure on people to voice their agreement with popular opinion. It means going along with the majority even if you have personal reservations.
Unanimity in regards to moral issues is widespread nowadays. Want to sleep around?–That’s fine. Use recreational drugs?–No problem. Desire abnormal sexual activity?–Whatever. Cheat on your taxes?–Not my business.
Today there is no official censorship against those who want to speak out for traditional morality, but the power of unanimity has all but killed the voice of right living in our time. The silence of unanimity has been more effective than censorship as we have surrendered to the monotonous choruses of “anything goes” and “toleration” and “judge not.”
Here is an example of how unanimity is working in middle Tennessee. Some local public high schools (that don’t allow the promotion of God) have been promoting and playing a very popular rap song in their pep rallies. The lyrics describe the sex act in the most vulgar words and put down women. The song was also played publicly in a local religious school.
Isn’t it time for those of us who recognize the importance of the moral standards that have served mankind through out history, to break our silence and stand up for what we believe? No one should be compelled to go along with our beliefs, yet no one should be able to demand our silence through the pressure of unanimity!
There must be some fairness in our culture. If people have the right to proclaim and revel in immorality, people should have the right to speak out for and rejoice in right living! Paul of Tarsus doesn’t mind raising his voice against unanimity when he proclaims: “Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Here’s some motivation. No matter how strong the pressures, no one has to surrender to unanimity! You don’t need to agree with me or with the clamoring corruption of our culture. You can think and act for yourself! Why not break the hold of unanimity and begin to think and speak out for righteousness?
