| Which Way Is Up? |

1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. Does it matter? Of course it does. If you don't know what is up then you may think you are headed up when you are really headed down. Just think of John Kennedy, Jr. flying his airplane across the bay at night during bad weather with no instruments. He thought he knew what was up, but obviously he was confused and his plane wound up down in the bay. Very sad.
Unfortunately happens every day in the moral and spiritual area. Very few people intentionally say "Gosh, I think I will self-destruct today." Instead they say, "Let's have some fun, get high, party, enjoy life." But what they think is up is often really down.
I worked as a counselor/chaplain in a rehab. I counseled more than 1,600 men who thought they were going up but wound up down--way down--"hitting bottom." Why?
No instruments. Our senses, like Kennedy's, can be deceived. But instruments are reliable. In the moral and spiritual realm, the instruments are in the Bible. It will tell you the truth about what is up and what is down. But if you won't read your instruments what good are they?
So here is a genuine challenge. Read the New Testament for five minutes a day for 21 days without missing a day. Then tell me what has happened in your life. I dare you. |
