| The Order of Melchizedek |
|
| |
In Hebrews, we learn alot about Melchizedek. We learn he is a priest of God Most High, an eternal priest-hood, and that Christ is of the Order of Melchizedek. But what is the Order of Melchizedek? This is how I see it in Scripture. Chapter 5 ends with a discourse about the milk and the meat, how weak Christians still need the milk, and stronger ones live on meat. Milk is for the babes in Christ, unskilled in the word of righteousness. And the meat is for those that understand the difference of right and wrong, are able to discern good from evil. Chapter 6 moves right into the next part. He says to get beyond the milk, Arron's priest-hood dealt with the issues of ceremonial washing (baptism), laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, eternal judgement, and repentance of dead works. These are great teachings, for the beginner, the young in Christ, but if we continue in just these teachings, we will never fully understand the world to come, nor truly walk in the priest-hood we were grafted into, for Christ said that we all are priests and kings, just as Melchizedek is. We should move on to the meat of Faith, walking and living in Faith, dwelling on the spiritual instead of the carnal, because as adult Christians, we should have already leaned the lessons of what is right and wrong, understanding what is good and evil. Adam and Eve were babes, even though they walked with God, they did not fully know Him, for if they did, when the serpent tempted Eve, she would have just walked away, and not even listened to him. How often do we act just as Eve, stand at the tree and listen, instead of discerning good and evil, and just turn our back and walk away. When the tempter comes at us, then to be of the Order of Melchizedek is being able to say " Go behind Me, Satan, because you do not mind the things of God, but the things of men." To be a priest of the Order of Melchizedek is to truly live Chapter. 11, to KNOW that what is spoken in faith, IS. To understand the working of the spiritual world, that the spoken word, is as a sword, can bring life, or death. To speak and know that it has already been done. Not as the name-it-claim-it teachings, for that is for personal gain, but to walk in the Order of Melchizedek is every thing that is done is done only to strengthen the kingdom of the Father. Our very existence should be focused on His kingdom, and seeking His will. Without this faith, we will never please the Lord. When all of our energy is focused on His kingdom, then it will not matter when the next meal comes, or about how our clothes look, how the electric bill will be met, because our eyes are focused on Him, not what is happening around us. It is when we take our eyes off of Him, and see what the world is doing, we sink. Or so it seems to me, any other revelations about Melchizedek? |

So true, but you have to take it in faith, like Jesus virgin birth! Look at his geneology, ever notice the differance between Matthew, and Luke... I did a study on it one time, and found that Matthew covered Joseph's liniage, and Luke covered Mary's. Matthew 1: Mat 1:15 and Eliud fathered Eleazar, and Eleazar fathered Matthan, and Matthan fathered Jacob, Mat 1:16 and Jacob fathered Joseph, the husband to be of Mary, out of whom Jesus was born, the One called Christ. Luke 3 Luk 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, Luk 3:24 Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph, |

This is a difficult subject, to say the least, for some. I think it easier to explain the "Transfiguration" in Gethsemane. Matt. 17:1-13 Mark 9:2-13; Luke 9:28-36 moses and Elijah appeared from the heavenly world. They were certainly not in the "flesh" as we know it, as they had died long ago. They appeared in a "Transfigured" body. A form of which only God knows. Melchisedec, the Greek form of Melchizedek (King of the just, righteous, or King of piece, Salem) Gen 14:18 calls Him king of Salem. He is also prophesied in Ps. 110. Gen 14:18 also describes the first "Communion." by which, it is well considered that He would have to be Jesus Christ in a "Transfigured" body. As the lady said, he had no mother or father. He was not "begotten" as yet. The tree of life, Gen 2:7 and Gen 3:24 is an "Hebraism" for the office Of our Lord also. Remember, we all have a family "tree" and we branch out. We also have limbs and take root in places. It is not a very complete study. But, to to do so would take a great deal of explaining. Scholars all agree to this truth. |

Mary's is traced back to Nathan, son of David and prophet while Joseph traces back to Soloman , the son of David and the wife of Urias, that David had killed on the battle field. |

true, but are we to decide if we speak the truth or stay quiet? Or are we not commissioned to speak what we are given. whether others accept or not is not our responsibility. We are instructed to sound the alarm, if they fail to hear, then at least their blood is on their own heads. as to know what kind of ground.... if it is grounded on scripture, we will always know that we are on solid ground, it is when we interject our own thoughts in that the ground starts turning to sand. |

We ARE ALL CALLED to BE of this Order ...[Divine Nature] ..of this Priesthood !
When Jesus said ..."It is Finished"...what was meant was that God took on [His] Responsibility... for the allowing of Free will to be exercised by Adam & Eve...& the Fall of Creation...[original sin]...
or the ...[SIN NATURE]....& as a Perfect Son ......... He the Father .......Living in Him gave Us ......The Perfect example....
To [choose] to follow the [WAY]...He [Jesus] Lived & Demonstrated as a Example for Us ... To exercise our free will in deciding to follow the [Way]....The [Way] of Jesus or the [Divine Nature] ! !
& [not] the [Sin Nature] or the [way] of Adam.
So God Created Us in His Image & Power ..yet He can not have many God's...We can only be One With Him & in Him.
............50% of ...it is Finished Meaning...God did His Part to Save the World....but Man [MUST] choose to Redeem Creation...in Doing His part [man's] 50% efforts...by following the [way] of Jesus.
In the same manner That Adam Subjected All of Creation to Fall....[Now]... We are called to Submit & Grow into The Mature Man that has The Skills & ability & Power to Be The [Way] ...of Jesus & Demostrate the [Way] just as Jesus did...He was about His Fathers Business.
The Purpose of [ALL] The Ministry...is To Develope This Mature Man !
But The Churches have been [not] been doing this....they Preach too many watered down & diluted Messages....[Spiritual Adultery].
I have called them Bubble Gum, Jacuzzi, Doctor Feel Good Messages etc., etc. Jesus...said..."Pick up [Your] Cross & Follow Me"....sound easy ? ?
The Church is Guilty of catering to the Sin Nature ...America's lazy ..make it [easy] for Me messages... [only] ! !....difficult messages we do not [WANT] to hear & [Listen] to ! ! !
To be a priest.....
of the Order of Melchizedek ....
is to [truly] live Chapter. 11, .....
to [KNOW] that what is spoken in faith,..... IS ! !
To [understand] [wisdom] the working of the spiritual world......... that the spoken word, is as a sword, & can bring life, or death.....
To [speak] and [know] that it has already been done. But [DO] walk in the Order of Melchizedek .........
Then everything that is done is done only to strengthen the kingdom of the Father.
Bless The Lord! & The God of Israel for He is One Lord! In Everything We Do..... as Melchizedk & Jesus would do! WWJD WWMD |

| Gary, thanks for sharing what you've learned on this subject. I haven't studied Melchiz.. in quite a while, and since he doesn't seem to impact my daily walk w/God, I don't see the urgency. BUT... this may be one more "hint" from the Spirit what book of the bible I should study next...Hebrews. God bless! |

Michael. Thanks for posting, and so true.... WE the church are guilty of watering down the message that Christ left for us to deliver. We the church have often gone the easy way, instead of the right way... because so often the right way brings ridicule, harassment, and persecution. Where-as the easy way gets us friends, prosperity, popularity. Mike n Laura. I always look forward to your reply on my posts. Thanks! As we grow in faith, walking and living a life of hope to see the things un-seen, then we are partakers of the Priesthood of Melchizedek, for by faith are we pleasing to the Father. By faith even the tribe of Levi gave tithes to Melchizedek, while yet in the loins of Abraham. By faith we are no longer under the carnal commandments that came out of Levi, but rather of power and endless live issuing out of Judah. Our priest-hood was made manifest even before the Law, because it was made with an oath from the Father to the Father, for He could swear to nothing higher to Himself., prior even before Levi. So in a way, Melchizedek does impact our daily life more than we may realize. |

Gary,
This may sound like a snide remark but weren't Adam and Eve thrown out of the Garden because they used their ability to judge good and evil? Now the Hebrews writer(s) come(s) along and promotes it as something that's good for us to exercise.
Judging good and evil in the context of the Garden is bad but in the world, it's a good thing. Check!
What do you make of that?

What you say Gary is very true. Unfortunately, I have found very little fertile ground here on MyChurch to plant seeds. Yet, I do continue to try. I wrote a complete blog today and went and deleted it by accident. It took me a long time to wiite it. I will try again tomorrow. |

Hi Rob, I had been thinking on that too.. here is what I found in the WORD. Genesis speaks of not eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. knowledge here is dah'-ath.. meaning knowledge: - cunning, ignorantly, knowledge, unawares (wittingly). observation, care, recognition ih Hebrews the writer says to train in the (diakrisis)discernment { separate thoroughly, that is, (literally and reflexively) to withdraw from, or (by implication) oppose; figuratively to discriminate (by implication decide), or (reflexively) hesitate: - contend, make (to) differ (-ence), discern, doubt, judge, be partial, stagger, waver.} of good and evil... so here he is saying to know about what is evil and separate ourselves from it.. do not partake of the evil, but to NOT partake of what is evil, we are given the Law, that tells us it is evil, and the Blood then empowers us to abstain... and then the grace that forgives us when we slip up. |

5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, [even] those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. I resist the interpretation that the author of Hebrews is advising that we get intimate with the Law. Doing that tends to be counter productive (the Law being the power of sin and all (see 1 Cor. 15:56)).
Furthermore, I resist the definition of grace - that it is mere forgiveness: and then the grace that forgives us when we slip up.
Knowledge of the Law is fine but it's certainly irrelevant in the context of righteousness. And this is one of his points. People have always believed that Law and righteousness went together "like peas and carrots" (to quote Forrest Gump). To this day, it is assumed that to behave a certain way is to be righteous but is that what the gospel teaches? 1:16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. The gospel reveals a righteousness of God that is from faith to faith (and not faith to works). Therefore, righteousness is not a behavior but it is a mental attitude. It comes by believing the promises of God (Romans 4 from Genesis 15) and not from external behavior modification. This theology is as revolutionary today as it was in the first century. And nobody believes it.
So in verse 13, when he's on the subject of the "word of righteousness", he could be talking about that particular controversy. We know for certain that the apostles differed on the doctrine of righteousness (cf. Romans 4 and James 2). 5:13 For every one that useth milk [is] unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. Gary, as a Messianic Christian, you probably know TONS of people who believe that righteousness is a behavior. Heck, you may be one yourself.
The "babes", in this context, are the ones who use the word of God to prove that righteousness is something that we do and not something that God imputes. I myself can prove, using the bible, that righteousness is by works and not by faith only. To be sure, one notable apostle in the first century did just that (although his logic and chronology are fatally flawed).
Whoever wrote the book of Hebrews had a thorough knowledge of the Law and the Prophets. They seemed to be in agreement with (or at least familiar with) Paul's doctrine of righteousness by faith (see Hebrews 10:38 from Hab. 2:4). In fact, Timothy, a traveling companion of Paul's, is mentioned in the parting comments of Hebrews 13. This mention of Timothy is one of the evidences people use to attribute authorship to Paul. I could go either way on it. Personally, I'd like to think that Hebrews was a community effort. Since no one claims authorship, and because of the constant reference to "we" in the text, it makes me think that a group of Jewish scholars came up with this beautiful revelation. But no one knows for sure. I've also thought that if it were Paul who authored Hebrews then it was probably wise for him not to identify himself as the author seeing that Jerusalem Christians were very much "under Law" (Acts 21:20 - "Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law"). 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which [be] the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. The "first principles of the oracles of God" (in my opinion) would be a "How To" on righteousness. These Christians were so caught up in the Law that they completely missed the first step, which is faith in the promises of God (see Romans 4 from Genesis 15:6). The same thing can be said of the 21st century church.
Look, the Apostle Paul said it like this: 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: Paul used the word of God (specifically the book of Genesis) to prove that righteousness comes by believing God's promise. Nobody else ever saw this before. Paul was the very first one in all of mankind to recognize this truth. And from the moment he understood it, he tried to use the word of God (all scripture) to instruct the rest of us in God's righteousness but few of us are ready to see it. Most of us are stuck on Law for righteousness.
The result of righteousness is the ability to discern good and evil. We don't need Law to tell us what's right and wrong (necessarily) but we can sense it. This ties in with the Hebrews discussion of Jeramiah 31. The days come when God will put His laws in our hearts and write them in our minds and we won't go around teaching Law to each other anymore. "For all shall know me; from the least to the greatest."

Hi Rob: I am not says to get intimate with the Law, but when used properly, as Paul writes, it shows us the errors of our ways, leads us to repentance, for without the Law, we don't know what is displeasing to the Lord. Without the Law, we would not know that to have an affair with our neighbors wife is wrong. Without the Law, we would not know that to bow before idols is wrong, When used properly the Law is good, but just as with anything else, when used improperly, people want to totally get rid of it.... a simple example is the guns. Guns don't kill people, but rather people kill using the gun incorrectly..... so to the Law, when used incorrectly, even for the right reasons, kill! It is not our job to flaunt the Law before our brothers and sisters, that is the job of the Holy Spirit, when He uses it, it brings forth repentance. as to what you write about above, The days come when God will put His laws in our hearts and write them in our minds .... This is the same as am writting about.... when we are mature in Christ, His Laws are in our hearts, He puts the desire in our hearts to please Him, when we crucify our flesh daily, we allow Him to put His desires in place of our own.We don't need the Laws when we become mature in Him, for He has already started the change within us, making us more like Him, leaving us more time to learn the deeper truths, instead of bashing each other over the head, or pouring ash upon our own heads. Here is an example of the Law that I am speaking of..... When a teenager is getting ready to start driving, he studys the LAW of driving, goes over and over the rule book, getting ready to take his drivers test, once he passes the test and starts driving, it starts to become natural for him to drive correctly. This is like us, when we first become a Christian, we have no idea what being a Christian is suppossed to do, so we start learning the rules of God, to have sex with animals is wrong, to have sex outside of marrige is wrong, to kill is wrong, to hate is wrong, to lust is wrong, to steal is wrong, to want something that belongs to someone else is wrong....... when we have those learned, then we start enjoying our drive. |

Gary,
I hear what your saying but how does that differ from what religious people practice? Religious people read the bible so they can understand what the rules are. That doesn't make them saved.
Also, I'm a little dissapointed in you Gary. I thought you knew better than that. What does the bible say "leadeth thee to repentance"? It's certainly NOT the Law (as you indicated above).
The apostle Paul had a big problem. The vast majority of his audience had no idea what the Law was. Paul certianly did not busy himself with instructing them in the Law of Moses but he did instruct them in righteousness.
I agree with the assertion that knowing the Law and the Prophets aids my walk. In fact, the more I know about it, the more support I have for my theology. But guess what. I know people who know lots more about the Law and the Prophets than I do who are WAY off track. Jehovah's Witnesses know the bible. Messianics know the bible. Reading the bible makes all of us "better" people - no matter what our definition of "better" is. We can all support our various theologies using the same word of God. All is vanity... |

Rob, my wording was wrong... sorry.. my language skills fail me... what i was trying to say it like what Pal wrote in Rom 3. 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law [is] the knowledge of sin. That the law lets us know what is sin.... |

Okay. I'll let you slide on that one but I'm still a little disappointed. Here's what leads us to repentance: 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? Iron sharpens iron, my brother. Stay sharp.
