I sign much of my correspondence with those three words. Many have asked what does it mean and then they couldn't find it on the Internet. To those who have asked I hope I have answered with a direct replay to you, to those who found this blog by "googling it" I hope it makes sense. I will tell you that upon adopting for myself, it has changed my life, and many days following those words are not easy, OK very hard. Hope this makes a little sense and if you would like to know more, write me.
Here goes.
"Ego Eimi Tertius"
Tertius's first and only mention for that matter, appears in Romans 16:22 (KJV)
When you look up the word "tertius" (and I used my Strong's concordance") I found this was the name of the person who wrote the Roman's epistle for Paul, (I believe Paul's affliction, as he refers to, was his sight). Tertius means "third". You could do an entire bible study on this, but isn't it God's will that a man who loves Jesus, writes for another man who loves Jesus making him third in line as it appears (Jesus[GOD]), Paul and Tertius.
Not being satisfied with just knowing what the word meant, and the more I read the Bible the more I realize God has something else to connect the word to, I remembered one other place where Jesus could be pointing.
The great commandment of our Lord. Matthew 22:37-40 "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. The second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self." I take this that Jesus wants us to love him first, then our neighbors, and we are to think of ourselves third. Thus, the Greek
Ego (I) Eimi (am) Tertius (third) or I am third.
(I hope the red came out, in my bible Jesus only spoke in red.)
Since I am a very young Christian, just turned eight, and I found this verse very early in my walk. I decided to adopt it as my own knowing Jesus put us and everyone else ahead of himself and I now sign everything “ego eimi Tertius”(even in school).
Again any questions please contact me other wise have a good and Godly day, for if it is not a Godly day, how can it be a good day?
EGO EIMI TERTIUS
