| As One Who Believes |

I'd like to think that I'm an open-minded and tolerant kind of guy. And I certainly treat others who subscribe to a different theology and religion with dignity and I respect their beliefs. And I don't think that their rejection of Christ is grounds for us not to be friends. And I'd love to see all my friends in heaven so that we can be together for eternity. But what I can't do is say that whatever they believe, because of how I feel about them, I'm sure they're going to have their sins forgiven and be granted eternal life in heaven with God. The Bible is particularly clear about this; the one who believes in him (that is; the only beloved son of God that God sent to the world God so loved) is not condemened; the one who does not believe in the name of Jesus is condemned. As I read this; if you do not have faith; that is - a living, dynamic and restored relationship with God through Jesus Christ, you're condemned as oppossed to those who do trust in Jesus and are forgiven for their sins. Now, I know that holding onto such a belief might put a few dents in my relationship with people who do not believe in the name of Jesus; they might be offended for this is certainly not a polite belief. But I'd hate to like someone so much, or be so polite to them, so worried about hurting their feelings that they wind up in hell! (By the same token, I don't advocate forced conversions either; no one can be forced to have a relationship with someone else, even God! That's a choice.) When I die, I know I'll go to heaven because I have believed in the name of the only Son of God; Jesus the Christ. Regardless of my past mistakes and sins, the slate is wiped clean and I have been set free to choose to be a slave to Jesus; a slave to righteousness! Can you say the same thing? 3:18 He who believes in him is not condemned; he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. |
