I have been on a search for "the roots of my faith" and I have discovered that that root is none other than Abraham for he was the first called of God to be set apart for him and to be the Father of the Jewish faith which without that root there would be no Christianity. Judaism does not need Christianity but without Judaism, Christianity has no roots!
In learning this I did a long research on Abraham and discovered that he is the perfect poster boy for the Jewish faith as well as the Christian faith.
First off he name was originally Abram, which means [high-or exalted father]he came from the genealogy of Shem who was the son of Noah who was found grace in the eyes of the Lord, Noah was also the only one who had not defiled himself with the offspring of the Nephillim and for this God saved him and his family which would eventually lead to Abram.
God called Abram to get away from his kinsman and away from his fathers house, for one reason they were idol worshipers and God was setting the stage for worship of him and only him.
As usual when God calls on someone to do something he gives strict orders and Abram disobeyed, he took his nephew Lot with him .
Lot 's name means to be "concealed or veiled" which this kept Abram from getting the full blessings until he removed that veil, not until the Cross did the veil completely go away which allows the full blessings of God which is his Son Jesus Christ who died for us to bring us back to our Father's presence.
Abram lied about his wife for he did not have the faith in God to let him make the way so the blessings were still withheld, he was more concerned for his life and well being..
There come a point of fighting between the two factions and Abram proposed they part ways, but he gave Lot the first choice, so Lot looked down and saw the fertile land of Sodom, knowing how the people were did not matter to him, I guess you could use today's phrase "he thought the grass was greener on the other side" only because of the sewage that the lifestyles there put out.
As in today's time, don't choose a church or a home based on looks or because of the neighborhood for looks can be deceiving.
After the veil[lot] was removed from Abram did God reaffirm his promise to him to give him all the land and to make him a father of many nations.
Even though Abram disobeyed God he still kept his promise to make Abram a great nation and a leader of a great nation needs a son to carry on the leadership which alas! Abram did not have and at his advanced age and Sarai they had no hope , but God will always provide a way
One has to wonder what it would have been like if Abram would of done what God said and Lot would of never went went with him, but as usual man does not listen to God, so God allows trials and tribulations to befall him to teach him and to bring him back, till tomorrow and part 2 of the "Roots of My Faith"..
