I have not been on here very much lately. Not because I have been on Facebook or anywhere else, just dealing with a lot of pain. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for me. God bless you all...I love you! When you are going through trials sometimes you just need to get back to the basics of a childlike faith. I hope this song and article blesses you as much as it has blessed me.
Jesus Loves Me
Recently in need of relaxation, I made a warm cup of tea and sat down to enjoy it for maybe ten seconds. “Mommy, peese have some?” my toddler said in her developing and endearing diction. I offered the irresistible little imp a sip of my warm, savory, long-awaited cup of tea – only to have her decide it really wasn’t her “cup of tea” and spit it right back into mine.
I’m sure every mother could relate a similar tale of exasperation. But for as many times as our precious little ones exasperate us, there are those moments when children do something so beautiful, so magical, so perfectly “other” that it pierces right through the ordinary chaos of the day and strikes us right in the heart.
I had such a moment with my tea-spitting toddler. Though Azalea has been fascinated with my jewelry for quite some time, she had never worn any of her own. I decided she was now old enough to try on some of her jewelry. So I took out the two little necklaces she had been given for her second birthday.
One necklace is a delicate silver rope with a dangling heart-shaped locket. The other one is a beautiful gold cross. I opened the box with the locket first and showed it to her.
“Heart,” she said.
“Right,” I encouraged her.
Next I lifted out the necklace with the cross and held it up. She looked at the tiny gold image intently but didn’t seem quite sure what to make of it. Though she has lots of books about Jesus, most of them tell stories of his healings and miracles in child-friendly language. Few try to tackle the cross in toddler-talk. So I held the necklace up and said simply, “That’s Jesus’ cross.”
A few hours later as we were getting ready to go out, she asked to wear her necklaces – both at the same time, of course. So I picked up the chain with the locket and put it on her. Then I took out the gold cross. She pointed eagerly to the dangling icon and said with great conviction, “Look Mommy. It’s a Jesus lumme!” Which translated is, “It’s a Jesus loves me!”
How perfect. How beautiful. How true.
Somehow my daughter’s mind made the connection between the name “Jesus” and the words from one of her favorite songs, “Jesus loves me, this I know.” How ever she arrived at her word choice, what better description of the cross could there be? The sign of eternal love. The proof we all need that Jesus truly does love us. (Ginny Mooney Withrow)
Jesus loves me! This I know, For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong; They are weak, but He is strong.
Jesus loves me! This I know, As He loved so long ago, Taking children on His knee, Saying, “Let them come to Me.”
Jesus loves me still today, Walking with me on my way, Wanting as a friend to give Light and love to all who live.
Jesus loves me! He who died Heaven’s gate to open wide; He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in.
Jesus loves me! Loves me still Tho' I'm very weak and ill; That I might from sin be free Bled and died upon the tree.
Jesus loves me! He will stay Close beside me all the way; Thou hast bled and died for me, I will henceforth live for Thee.
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us, 2:5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
tea-spitting toddler...how precious..and her observations tells how she is being taught.
I watched two roudy boys once and was nearly exhausted. One of them, Will, played with a dirty shoestring all night long while destroying nearly everything in sight. The shoestring never left his hand. It was grubby like the hands that clung to it and refused to stay clean.
I finally had them sitting down and made a cup of tea. I was distracted just a moment, and had not had but a sip of my long awaited cup of relaxation. I went to pick up my cup and that nasty shoestring was floating partially submerged in my tea. Will simply said " I put it in there". I weakly responded "Yes you did"
So went my relaxation. (Will should be about 18 now)
WOW God knew where to send me tonight! I loved the song and the story about your little girl. Oh how wish they can be, That song Jesus loves me this I know, I use to sing it on my job, I was a crossing guard for a few years before we moved. It made my heart feel bright, too see these kids who have no idea who Jesus is sing hi ssong and take it with them after they left.
I too have been suffering with a lot pain so yes I understand
I've been working with preschoolers, helping our with our Junior Church (I'm 72) It's a joy (most of the time) to be around them. They're our future and God loves them and they love the Lord and express it well when we slow down enough to give them a chance. Thanks, Bren.
Ohhhhh, I can't wait for my kid to really start talking!!! He melted my heart last night just with bringing me the Cheerio box and saying with a smile, "peas!" He just learned that. lol But what melted my heart the most is when he said "Jesus" and now he's saying "Dear God". It is the most precious thing! And is first sentence he ever repeated? "I love you."
