Romans 13:9

Me and You

13:9 The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this sentence, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

One thing I notice about this verse: all the commandments focus me on me.  "I should not commit adultery, I should not kill, I ..."

Paul, under the inspiration of the Spirit, focuses me on my neighbor.

Howdy Destiny!  Thanks for the comment.  I hope I haven't miscommunicated.  I think the idea behind Jesus commandment is that we take our eyes off ourselves (when it comes to meeting needs), and start looking at others.  That legalism only focuses a person on themself, but pursuing love focuses a person on other people.

Thanks Cheryl!  I agree.  I've been reading the word since I was 6, and I just noticed that at 43.
