"no one can tame the tongue" ( James v. 8).

For those of us who have chosen to blog some of our thoughts, feelings, insights and relevations, God in his wisdom has made a way for us to express ourselves with Love and Compassion and Understanding.
At the bottom of the blog there is a drop down box that says "Make this post viewable by:"
Everyone (the world) Friends only Church only Draft (me only [& God])
When I was tired and irritated last night I wrote a long blog entry, and my expression was colored by some feelings and emotions that were not the most edifying, nor the most encouraging. Wendy had expressed earlier in the evening, " I wish there was a way we could blog and save the blog until we had time to think about it and edit it first ". I looked for that feature and I found it. We were thrilled.
I used the feature wisely last night. I have confined a long emotion-laden blog and tucked it away for safe-keeping. It is waiting to be pruned and edited by the Holy Spirit. Thank God for it!
We all should Love each other enough to consider using this feature from time to time. The Holy Spirit will tell us when it is appropriate to set aside a draft and revisit it later for revision when we have had time to pray and have reached a place of clarity. God and Jesus will approve it when it is ready.
Even Paul in his enlightenment was able to say "This word is from God" while at other times he said, "This is just me blowing off steam". It was good and prudent for him to do that.
My latest draft may never see the light of day. Some of it was from God, but part of it was just me.
Of the tongue, James continued in Verse 8 : " it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison"

I to find my emotions sometimes get the best of me. Emotions what a big word, I believe that controlling both our tongue and emotions is the hardest job we face daily. It is part of daily dieing to self. Once again Neil thanks for making me think.

Thank you, Neil for reminding us to stop before we post. Megan has used this feature a time or two herself. We also have a "Draft" feature in our head if we would but choose to use it. I am guilty many times for speaking before thinking it through. Sometimes just taking a deep breath or counting to 10 is all I need to keep from saying something that I will regret later.

We all struggle with it and James knew we would and God knew it, too. That's why he warned us in His book. I think you and Megan are better than average when it comes to....well, you know, like the carpenter says, "measure twice, cut once". And I'm not saying you cut people. I'm saying you seem to be careful not to- -because of careful measuring first. The other great thing, of course, is having a God who has revealed Himself as a God of second chances. We can ask for forgiveness and we can be forgiven. We can make right what we have made wrong. That's nice to know. Keep encouraging.

What a lovely post, glad you shared this! Restraint is a beautiful habit for us to get into. Gal 5:23 calls it a fruit of the Holy Spirit. Your consideration for your brothers and sisters is an example worthy of following!

3:11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet [water] and bitter? God has brought me to this same point many, many, many times. Your maturity in your decision is wisdom from the Lord himself. Thank you Lord for Neil's wisdom and understanding. Bless him where he is at please God. In Jesus name. Amen. |
