When he was 10 he spoke with the knowledge and authority of someone four times his age. He knew Scripture inside and out. He was in love with his Lord and Savior. He spoke of Paul's letters as though he had written them himself. "He should be a minister when he grows up" people would say. A few years later his best friend died very suddenly. He was never the same again. What made him turn his back on God? Anger? Perhaps. Maybe it was just that he reached that age where children begin to question life and test all the lessons they learned growing up. Whatever made him turn I have to wonder how God feels about it. Does this make the Heavenly Father as sad as it makes the earthly father? I have to believe that our Father in heaven is very sad whenever He sees a child fall away. This has to break His Heavenly heart so very much. In Genesis 6:6 it says, "And the Lord was sorry that He made humankind on the earth, and it grieved Him to His heart." It "grieved Him". Imagine that; God becoming so despondent that He is grieved to His heart. Ever been that sad before? Think of that on heavenly terms. What does it take to make Him happy again? I wonder, if that young man should return the love that his Father holds for him, would make the Father rejoice once again. What will it take to turn the boy around? Prayer. Nothing more we can do, but pray. Proverbs 15:29 states that "The Lord is far from the wicked but He hears the prayer of the righteous." Pray without ceasing for this lost sheep and others like him. |
