Lincoln City Councilers, Local Area People:
I am saddened deeply that Lincoln City had decided about 3 years ago not to allow the annual bike gathering at Chinook Winds. I enjoyed gathering together with family and some friends checking out the bikes and visiting with the out of town bikers and those involved in making this event happen.
While in town we would go out to lunch or dinner, as I know several other people from the area did as well.
I did some quick math and discovered Lincoln City voted out over $40,000.00 for
one weekend with it's decission not to continue this event!
I used the guess of only 100 bikes at 50 bikes having 2 riders and the other 50 having one rider (150 riders). I called seven of the hotels and motels along Hwy 101 in Lincoln City to get prices for single and double occupancy for a Friday and a Saturday at the end of August.
Then I used the average cost and came up with a total of $29,811.00 + tax!
I used a modest cost of $8.00 per person of breakfast, $12.00 per person for lunch
and $20.00 per person for dinner with a total of $12,000.00 for meals. Then added gas fills for all the bikes @ $800.00. The total for this only, $42,611.00 for 2 days. My numbers are on the low side as these persons would also be buiying items from the local merchants.
Come on Lincoln City and surrounding areas - Stand up and be counted as wanting the bike gathering to come back to our area! Let's speak out! It most likely is too late to have this event this year, but it's time WE THE PEOPLE stood up for events we enjoy and to let TOWN HALL know what we do and don't like!
I personally don't like the fact Lincoln City councilers would not allow this event to continue, expecially during this economic crunch. We need bike events - WRITE Town Hall, WRITE to the NewsGuard, WRITE to the NewsTimes. LET'S BE COUNTED!
