| Pam Tillis' Country Wisdom |

"Oh Queen of Denial, buyin' all his alibis
Queen of Denial, floatin' down a river of lies."
Cleopatra, Queen of Denial is a fun song to listen to and sing. Yeehaw! However, it also is a powerful warning to us all. Ignoring reality doesn't make any sense.
"I knew he didn't have any money
Yeah that's why he couldn't buy me a ring
Oh and just because he bought himself a brand new pickup truck
Really didn't prove anything."
I sometimes use Pam Tillis' song to illustrate the importance of facing facts and dealing with life as it is. Several years ago, someone told Pam that I was using her song as an example in positive thinking speeches.
Pam sent me a signed picture of herself with the following words written on it: "To Steve; I heard you were using me as a role model -- not! Seriously, glad you could relate to my whacky song. All the Best, Pam Tillis"
Cleopatra, Queen of Denial is indeed a "whacky" song. And denial is a "whacky" way to live. In the log run denial whacks you upside the head and shatters all connection with reality.
It is very difficult to swim away from the current of denial and to climb out onto the shore of openness and honesty. Only the strongest and most courageous people are willing to depart with denial.
