| Best 10 bucks I ever spent |

| I was talking to Preston Pittman via a message about John 3:16. If you don't have him on your friend list, please check out his love blogs. Anyway, I was telling him that in 1988, a 28 year old friend of the family was killed in an auto accident. Gary had been saved as a teenager and got his parents out of the bars and into church. As he married and had kids, he started drinking again. He called our house to talk to me a month before his death. I told him that Mike wasn't there (Mike is my late husband who died in 2000). He said he wanted to discuss God with me. He had been feeling that he needed to get back in church. We talked for awhile and then a month later he died. My 11 year old son wanted to go to his funeral. Gary was at our home a lot and he knew him well. My 8 year old son did not want to go. At the funeral, the minister wanted everyone to recite John 3:16. Me, my son and the minister were the only ones reciting it. If my 8 year old son had been there he also could have. Earlier on, I had told my sons that they could earn five bucks if they memorized that verse. I suppose some of you may think I should have made them do it without pay but to be honest, I gave them money without a reason lots of times. They both memorized it and I would test them often, sort of a game. I did it because I felt that if I passed on, that they would have the richest inheritance left behind if they only knew one verse...John 3:16. I backed it up with many other lessons over time, but felt huge peace knowing they knew it. We sang it sing song fashion. We tested each other, playfully so that I knew they would have a fond memory of that too. It wasn't a miserable drill but a joyful time. I casually explained that to Preston and then thought, someone else's kids or grands could benefit from this if I posted it. It was the best 10 bucks I ever spent. |
