I found it fitting when I awoke this morning to a dark, gloomy day and then when I logged in and saw John 8:12 as the scripture, it all just made sense to me. Today is "Good Friday", the day when darkness had fallen on the earth...Sometimes I just try and imagine what his disciples must have felt; how alone and maybe even betrayed, the range of emotions they may have struggled with.
We do not know what anyone was thinking or feeling because we were not there. However, I know how it feels when someone I am close to does something so futile as not returning my phone calls! Much less to have been walking daily with Jesus and then to have to witness the horrible crucifixion...WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT WAS TO COME! As for me, in the year 2009, my heart still mourns today for the terrible suffering that took place because I know I am not and never will be worthy.
But, if you look at the scripture of John 8:12, Jesus told his followers that if they follow him, they will not walk in darkness. Many thought Jesus would deliver his people during the time he was walking on the earth. They were looking for tangible, immediate results. But Jesus had already promised them the "Light of Life."
With that in mind............Sunday is Coming!!!!
8:12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
Following Jesus is faith...we, like the disciples have been told what is to come, yet we always seem so surprised, so taken off-guard. Like the disciples, we easily feel defeated and alone...as you so eloquently described in your blog entry. Faith is an action. It's alive and well within our souls. It's a fire that desires to be tended. I pray that the movie tonight brings about a rekindling of faith in many hearts. Sunday will be an exciting day!
