| Believer and not doubter - Thomas. |

20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and see my hands; and reach `hither' thy hand, and put it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 20:28 Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 20:29 Jesus saith unto him, Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed `are' they that have not seen, and `yet' have believed. One of my favorite people is one who was redeemed for me by the Orthodox Church. They celebrate the Sunday after Easter as the Sunday of Thomas the Believer. I so very much love this because it writes Thomas's history from Christ's perspective, not ours. We look to Thomas and see one who questioned Christ's resurrection, but they look at the truth of who Thomas was and call him Thomas the Believer. Wouldn't it be terrible for us to be locked into that moment of our disbelief, called unbelievers for all of history? Instead, God calls us heirs, sons and daughters of His kingdom, prophets, priests, and kings. The day is there to remind us that the completion of Easter takes place in our lives, we have to see ourselves as believers, not doubters. So when I struggle, I get to look in the mirror, or into your face as you struggle, and say, "How is Dennis the believer today?" I get to look into a face chosen by God to be His son and proclaim His goodness, His resurrection, and His completeness. Easter gets to be Easter, and I get to be like Thomas, a believer. |
