A few weeks ago, a friend of ours died. He was only 21, a young man who had cystic fibrosis. His death inspired a couple of poems. The second one here, I had been thinking about for a long time. When Ben died, I wrote Unanswered, and then finally penned Glory Springs. I hope you all will enjoy them both.
Unanswered by Suzette Maners Why? Too young to die Alive, Why sickness? Why suffering? Why not? Am I exempt? Are you? Is anyone? Innumerable questions Answers come slowly or never Will it get better? What will life bring? How long do I have? How will it end? What after death? Not all is unanswered Life after death In Christ, with Christ after death He is the Door To life He is the Way To life Though much goes unanswered In life Those who have died Know the answer
Glory Springs by Suzette Maners
Driving on a winding road Lined with Crepe Myrtle Trees, Freshly pruned A stark landscape of fingery limbs Open fingery palms to the Heavens Time springs forth pink, white, lilac blooms Glory all summer long Till in the Fall it rains From these trees, not water But tiny pink, white, lilac flowers Glory springs |
