Feelings, Oh, Oh, Feelings . . .
|

Feelings lie! They create much self-deceit among human beings, because our feelings are frequently false. Feelings are not a reliable gauge of reality.
Did you ever feel like everybody forgot your birthday? Maybe all day long you felt hurt and rejected by your family, friends, and co-workers. Then when you opened the door of your home that night, a room full of people shouted with love and enthusiasm: "Surprise! Happy Birthday!"
You wasted that day listening to your lying emotions and proved the fact that feelings are frequently false! You genuinely felt forgotten and unloved. Yet in reality, you were being loved a lot on that birthday.
Emotions should be tested before being accepted. Check them out with the Word of God. Feelings that falsify facts should be immediately rejected.
When an emotion enters your mind or heart, give that feeling a number (like they do at Baskin Robbins) and make him wait in line until you know the facts. Don't let a lying feeling step in your way and ruin a perfectly good day. Instead say: "Is this emotion true or is it just deceptive commotion?"
Don't react, panic, or fall apart, until you have solid proof rather than an instant impulse. After all, falling apart's not what it's cracked up to be.

Brother Steve, I like that verse of scriptures that says, the just shall live by faith not feelings.... I added the not feelings. How many time has someone got their feeling hurt even in a pentecostal church, you would be surprized as Gomer Pyle would say.Until folks mature in the Lord this will continue to be a problem, even in the best of Churches. I'm feeling inspired, "If everyone was just like me, what a wonderful, wonderful church this would be". Just kidding. I still battle my feelings also....

I like this! I've battled with feelings as well... but more on the version of not liking them. A wise person once told me that God created feelings too. Whether feelings are right or wrong doesn't matter... they just are. But not to be taken as truth. God's Word is truth. I think you pretty much said that... I just used different words. :) Thanks for the reminder when the "feelings" start sneaking into the "truth" category! Good stuff!
