Friends, please be in prayer for our dear friend Kris, and her husband Doug. She just recently gave birth to their daughter and they have two boys 9 & 6. They own a small farm in Baltimore County and they homeschool their children. Kris came down with the flu about 12 days ago, then 4 days later she was admitted to University of MD Medical Center ICU with bi-lateral strep pneumonia. Kris has been in the hospital for 8 days now. She is intubated, running a temperature for the last two days and barely concious. Please keep her in your prayers that she would experience the healing power of our Heavenly Father! Her parents are in town from Colorado helping Doug care for the children. They are believers and have faith in the Great Physician!

These are very very dear friends, with a precious family. We are very close to them in every way you can imagine. It breaks my heart that the overwhelming joy of the birth of their first daughter is followed so closely by this inexplicable sickness. Right now, Kris is in a life-threatening state. Please, I ask you to begin praying now. This evening I and another are planning to visit in order to pray and lay hands. I can tell you, I won't be holding anything back. Your prayers for us as we intercede would be most appreciated too.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4-20-09 UPDATE Tonight at the hospital we prayed, laid hands, and anointed Kris w/oil. Your prayers (and others too) lifted us. Kris was heavily sedated and barely conscious the whole time we were there (2+ hrs). Her eyes were wide open only a few times. I informed her that Laura has been thoroughly enjoying her baby's company while she's been away (we're helping care for the kids), and she actually smiled, with her whole face. I was surprised she could even hear me!! Her husband, an ER doctor himself, was guardedly optimistic about the way she looked tonight.

4-21-09 UPDATE
Kris' husband (an ER doc) told us last night while visiting Kris that no news is good news. There was no news today, so that would be a good thing I suppose. When he stopped by today to pick up his children from our house, he told us that Kris looked "pretty good" today when he visited.
Another group of Christians was supposed to be going in to pray w/her this evening. They were from Kris' home church.
Tonight a nurse in our small group gave us a little more info about Kris' sickness. She told us that in Kris' state, significant progress is likely measured in 3-day increments. So it'll be another 24+ hours before we know anything substantive. Oh, our friend underscored the seriousness of Kris' condition, talking about ARDS and septic shock. It was very hard to listen.

4-22-09 UPDATE
Remember "no news is good news"? Well, there was absolutely no news today. But there wasn't BAD news, so hope and prayers continue. As of tonight (Wed.), Kris has now been in the ICU for 10 days.

4-23-09 UPDATE
Day 11 in ICU. Tonight we saw Doug, and he told us today was a "good" day for Kris. She started the day by asking if she could hear her husband's voice. She was able to write messages clearly on a pad of paper to communicate. (She still can't talk b/c of the tubes down her throat). The doctors also decreased her meds somewhat today, and elevated her bed a little. (They had her lying flat and heavily sedated for days, so her body could conserve energy and oxygen.) We received a strong glimmer of hope today for our prayers!

4-24-09 UPDATE
Not much info today. Kris is still in the ICU (day 12), and few visitors are allowed. Kris' mother did visit though, and says Kris looks better than she did yesterday. That would be 2 consecutive days of improvement if accurate (praise God).

4-25-09 UPDATE
Spoke w/Doug (Kris' husband) on the phone. He said Kris again looks a little better...noting that's 3 straight days of consistent (yet slow) improvement. Tomorrow will be 2 full weeks in ICU for her.
Today they changed Kris' ventilator mode, decreasing the level of breathing help she's receiving. They need to slowly wean her off the vent. The fluid build-up ("edema") in her body that resulted from the pneumonia is starting to decrease, apparently further evidence that she's making headway. The doctors are hoping to begin some physical therapy (PT) on Monday. To start, this would merely consist of having her sit up on the edge of her bed.
Doug also said Kris is awake more, and writing more. He said she wrote "feel better, keep praying" twice. One of those times, on the back of the paper she wrote "pray for a miracle".
Today Kris asked how long she's been in the hospital. She also asked about her baby daughter. I'm sure her heart must ache to see her daughter, born just 9 weeks ago.

4-27-09 UPDATE
Spoke w/Kris' father this morning. He said they continued to see gradual improvement in Kris' condition over the weekend. She even managed to give Doug some instruction regarding homeschool assignments for their kids! However, progress has been SLOW, and Kris continues to be watched closely as she stays in the ICU (day 15 today).
The staff tried to decrease Kris' dependence on the ventilator over the weekend, but did not see the results they had hoped for. So it's going to be a few more days before they try again to get her off the vent.

4-27-09 FOLLOW-UP
Doug informed us that the staff had Kris sit in a chair, for a few moments at least, to get her PT going. It didn't last but a few moments. This again is progress, albeit slow.
The other bit of news wasn't so encouraging. Doug overheard the staff discussing the possibility of doing a tracheotomy on Kris. This is a very unpleasant procedure, and he really hopes it isn't necessary.

4-28-09 UPDATE
(***This is a message from a doctor who is a family friend that works at the Hospital where Kris is currently. Even though he is not part of the medical team that is overseeing Kris, he gets to see Kris and Doug on location regularly. Here is what he sent....*****)
Well, went by this a.m. to see Kristina, and though still on the vent, was sitting up in bed watching TV. Through gestures she said that she was doing well, said she's hoping to be off the vent in 1-2 days, and I told her that there was alot of people praying for her and she teared up and said basically " keep it going!" The respiratory therapist said that yesterday she was asking Kris about help with her sick dog, and she was diagnosing the problem and giving treatment options, not too bad.
She's been transitioned to a lower intensity vent system, and her oxygen requirement is 50%, down from the upepr 70's last week. I hope as she does that if things continue to progress, that she may be able to come off the vent in the next day or two, but things really do look like they've turned the corner.
Long term I would say is still up in the air. She'll be out of the ICU before discharge, but the question remains in her residual strength. I hope she's able to bounce back and have physical therapy at home, and not have to go to a rehab center. We'll see how she does over the course of the week.

4-29-09 UPDATE
Doug reports that Kris has made good enough improvement that a tracheotomy likely won't be necessary--good news! This procedure would have been done if Kris was expected to be on the vent much longer, b/c the drs don't like patients to be intubated (tube down throat) too long, due to the possibility of complications or scarring.
The staff is actively weaning Kris off the vent now, also a very strong development!

4-30-09 UPDATE
Kris has now been in the ICU 18 days, but she continues to improve. She's sitting up more, she's more alert, and the weaning off the vent continues. With the increased alertness though comes an awareness that nearly 3 weeks of her life has been spent in the hospital. So there is a possible battle with depression and the blahs coming on. Also Kris' heart certainly aches to see her infant daughter, whom she hasn't seen since this all began.
Today it was impressed on us how long Kris' recovery time is "expected" to be. Normally, it takes 3-6 months for someone who has had pneumonia to heal from the damage to the lungs and regain full lung capacity/strength. Given the severe complications of Kris' case, it could take significantly longer.
Details are coming to light regarding why Kris' case was so severe. It was like the perfect storm, as Kris suffered from influenza (flu), and strep pneumonia, and Accute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) all at the same time. One medical professional informed us that in her 30 years in medicine she has never seen anyone simultaneously battling flu and pneumonia pull through. God was indeed working to bring healing......Kris' recovery was nothing short of miraculous!!!
And one unfortunate additional note, i.e. ANOTHER prayer request. Kris' mother Karen was taken to the hospital this morning with some sort of illness/lung distress. We think it's bronchitis at the moment, but we'll know more later. Kris' parents have been living w/Doug & the kids, helping care for the kids and the farm while Kris has been in the ICU.

5-1-09 UPDATE
Karen (Kris' mom) was diagnosed today with.....pneumonia! Can you believe it??? However Doug insists that Karen's case is no where near as severe as Kris' was. Karen should be discharged tomorrow with a prescription for antibiotics (I believe), and she is not in ICU (as Kris still is).
Kris continues to heal gradually. Every day, we hear this. It's music to our ears every time too! Praise God!
ps...I will be discontinuing the updates on this blog the day Kris is released from the ICU. This looks like it could be Monday. Thanks for all your prayers, my dear, dear brothers and sisters. Your hearts, and your time, are PRECIOUS!

5-2-09 UPDATE
Spoke w/Doug briefly, both Kris and Karen had GOOD days. Kris sat up in a chair for 3 hours for PT. This is major. She continues to communicate (in writing), and watches a fair amount of tv in her room.
The staff also decreased her ventilator to minimal breathing assistance for a short time, presumably to give Kris' lungs a little exercise. We are looking forward to her being completely weaned off the vent, so those dang tubes can come out of her throat/mouth. Ugh! BTW, day 20 in ICU.
Karen may be kept in the hospital till Monday. She's no where near as sick as Kris is even now, yet she's a bit older (being Kris' mom). So they're being careful with her.

5-4-09 UPDATE (no update)
I received absolutely no news of either Kris or her mom yesterday, nothing yet this morning either. Remember, early on Doug told me no news is good news in these cases. So in a way, I'm glad we heard nothing.
This morning begins Kris' 22nd day in ICU. Could it be her last? I pray so!! Will try to post a brief update at some point today.

5-4-09 UPDATE
I was just informed that Kris was taken OFF the ventilator today, around 11:00 a.m. ... PRAISE GOD!!! This is a HUGE development! This means Kris no longer needs assistance breathing!!! Hopefully the next update will be her departure from ICU!!

5-4-09 2ND UPDATE
Just found out this evening that Karen (Kris' mom) was released from the hospital today!! Praise God!! She has to wear a mask around the house, and was instructed to get lots of rest, but at least she's home and improving!!
And more good news. Indications are that Kris will be moved out of the ICU tomorrow (Tues). I'm praying that our FINAL update on this blog will be posted shortly!!

5-6-09 FINAL UPDATE
Today (Wed.) Kris was finally released from ICU!!! She was transferred to another hospital for another 2 weeks or so of PT, then home!
Kris spoke to Laura on the phone this evening, the first time either of us have heard her voice in over 3 weeks (Kris was in ICU for 23 full days). Laura called a couple days ago, but Kris was still intubated at that time and could not talk. So she listened as Laura told her how her baby has been over the last 3 weeks. (Laura and Kris have very similar hair, so Laura told her that her baby would transition easily back to her mommy.) Kris thanked Laura for the HUGE lift in her spirits with that message.
This is the final update of this prayer blog! MANY MANY THANKS to each and every one of you who have devoted time, emotion, and strength to prayers for Kris and her family. Laura and I deeply appreciate it, and Kris and her family certainly do too!! We also hope you were blessed by partnering w/God in Kris' miraculous recovery... praises to the King!! 5-17-09 FINAL FINAL UPDATE
Kris came home Friday, May 15, about 6 weeks after initially becoming ill. She continues to REST and regain her strength. There will be no further updates, unless of course she suffers a relapse. But this is unlikely. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR PRAYERS! ALL GLORY TO GOD!!

Thank you friends. This situation is so.... inexplicable. We just kept expected Kris to make that turnaround, to get better, you know??? Millions get the flu every year, and this never happens, right? We realized it was really serious after she had been in the hospital for a few days, with each improvement followed by a downturn.
Laura just called me at work a while ago to tell me Kris is in grave (life-threatening) condition. I'm stunned as I write this. I am praying at work, and struggling to maintain my composure. From the bottom of my heart I thank you for each prayer rendered.

Purify, clense, and sanctify us now, so that we many pray more powerfully for Kris, Doug and their Family. Father, we humbly ask that Jehovah Raphe will come into Kris' room to minister all His healing for her. Lord God, we being lifted up on our Holy Faith speak healing to Kris. | Don't look at the circumstances Mike, look at Gods Word. Andrew Wommack has a healing testimonies that may help you to view before you go pray, He also has healing scriptures set to music you can download as MP3 files. I highly suggest you do everything you can to get yourself in a position of faith before you go pray. Seeing someone non-responsive on a ventilator can do something to our level of faith if we have not set our minds and hearts to Gods Word, I would fast and pray...those healing scriptures already posted give you a great start for meditation...Andrew's site is www.awmi.net God bless Mike. Every name including "bi-lateral pneumonia" has to bow to the name of Jesus.
I have faith in the healer that He will use this as an ooprtunity to show Himself Great.

I join my faith to the faithful ones in believing that No Thing is too small for you to do. Just today I was reflecting on the many miracles You have performed in my life and I am humbled to know that I did not deserve any of it. I know that You and Your Word is one and if You did it for me, I know that You can do it for Kris. Father, remember my prayer for those who are on medication and cannot pray for themselves? Well, I know now that Kris is one of those people. She needs to get totally well so that she can go home to take care of her family. I am asking Father, that you heal her from every desease and dis-ease in her mind, body and soul. These prayers, and pledges of prayers, are so uplifting. I printed off the first half before leaving to visit Kris and lay hands, and gave them to her husband. He was greatly encouraged. I will forward the rest of these precious prayers via email. THANK YOU EACH ONE OF YOU. This afternoon I was having a difficult time maintaining my composure at work, after getting the latest update on Kris. Until today, she was just "sick". But today, the thought of her family actually losing her hit me hard. The thought of my dear sister's life slipping away in the hospital, while her precious newborn baby and two young sons were at home awaiting her, was devastating to me. But tonight at the hospital we prayed, laid hands, and anointed Kris w/oil. Your prayers (and others too) lifted us. Kris was heavily sedated and barely conscious the whole time we were there (2+ hrs). Her eyes were wide open only a few times. I informed her that Laura has been thoroughly enjoying her baby's company while she's been away (we're helping care for the kids), and she actually smiled, with her whole face. I was surprised she could even hear me!! Her husband, an ER doctor himself, was guardedly optimistic about the way she looked tonight. Again, THANK YOU for your prayers. And may I add, Kris is FAR from out of the woods at this point, so if your prayers could continue just a little longer, it would be so appreciated! |

I missed several blogs apparently while in Richmond. I didn't know about this until you responded to my private message about updating Kris's condition. I went straightaway to look for it. When I read about it, I bowed my head to pray and suddenly felt so short of understanding of healing. It felt like I was in class for a pop quiz and I needed to know everything I had ever learned on healing prayer, but couldn't draw up much to work with and wondered what I would know when the teacher handed me the sheet. The reckoning.
I asked the Lord about it. How do I handle those moments. I suddenly realized I come to the Lord because I care and ask. He doesn't need me to be wordy (although sometimes I am) or weep (although sometimes I do) or shout and rebuke the devil (has happened) but this morning, when praying for Kris...just asked honestly, Lord...take this and do something for her because we are asking in faith and her family wants her home and compassion has flooded the blog....please collectively take our faith and see her through. I don't know her, but don't need to. I brought a baby home a couple of times and worried over it's every need. This baby needs her mommy. Her good mommy. Her dad has a grueling job if he works ER and her boys are educated at home. They need their mommy/wife. Simply heal her I asked. I felt He heard, Mike. I just felt He heard and will. |

| Just talked to God about this while showering for work. He told me because I am in His presence so often, I simply ask. No drum rolls or magic. I am there and I ask as His child. I got a revelation here about the ease of being His and no stranger to being with Him when the time comes to have a request answered, it is easy to go to Him. |

Your compassion never ceases to amaze me, dear MyChurch. You show who your LORD is by laying aside your many differences (doctrines, denominations, etc.) in order to join us in intercession for this dear lady and her family. I remain humbled and awed....and full of appreciation.
I learned a few new terms last at the hospital. Among them, I learned the difference between staph pneumonia and strep pneumonia. The former (staph) is very damaging to the lungs, b/c necrosis of the tissues occurs. This strain is MUCH harder to fully recover from. The latter (strep, which it turns out Kris has) offers a far greater opportunity for full recovery. This is something to be thankful for, even as we cry to the Lord and pour out our prayers for Kris and family.
We applied oil which was from the Holy Spulchre in the Holy Land. We did this in obedience to James 5:14 (although the verse that immediately follows makes clear that it is the prayers through which the person is made well, not the oil).
I wish that I had time to answer every post here, you deserve it. But unfortunately time will not allow. Thank you again for your grace and love, and your continued prayers...thank you!

Father God. Thank You that You hear the deep groanings within all of your saints for the healing of this precious mother and wife. I come into agreement with all of these prayers and especially what Michael said,
Every name including "bi-lateral pneumonia" has to bow to the name of Jesus. We come into agreement with your Word that says, "No weapon formed against us will prosper." Assign angels as divine escorts and supernatural security around Kris, Doug and their family. Close the gates of death and seal up the doors of affliction and pour out your healing balm upon Kris. Father, let this family feel your presence and watchful care in that hospital room and in their home. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in Kris and quickens her immune system with the life and wisdom of God, which guards the life and health of her body. We place her in Your loving care. We seal these prayers in the name of Jesus. Now unto Him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or imagine, and to Him who sustains our body, soul and spirit; to the almighty God our heavenly Father, the King eternal, immortal, invisible-the only wise God - be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

| Be still and know he is God! The author and finsher of our faith! Faith is the substance of things hoped for praise God. never underestimate the will of our dear sweet and mighty Lord! Our prayers do NOT return void amen! Although we stumble and fall he picks us up and breathes life right back into us. You know I know exactly what she is going through! The week of christmas I started my journey of my continuing testimony! I started out with chronic bronchitis, turned into full blown double pneumonia had symptoms lasting 6 weeks of dire ones, the next 6 weaker ones! Now Sick again taking antibiotics and continuing to praise his holy name even though Doctor tells me I have it again in a weaker strain! I keep praising and raising his sweet holy name! as we all should, because of who he is...I speak life to her lungs and plea the precious blood of Jesus to run through her body from the crown of her head to the soles of her feet! She IS cleansed and she WILL recover I speak to those lungs to function as the Lord intended them to! I rebuke the devour of the devil and curse his stronghold over her in Jesus precious name amen! She is HEALED!! He will never leave her or forsake her thy will be done! |

praying, when my son was born, my wife was diagnosed with group b strep ( kind of like strep throat, but in the uterus) she had to stay in the Hospital for 2 weeks. My son had a bowl movement when he was being delivered, and contaminated her insides, then he went into fetal shock, they had to stop delivery and do an emergency cesarean, they all came out ok, but we still tease our son, that he came out covered in poo. |

Doug has been recieving a BAJILLION phone calls and emails, so it's difficult to get updates from him. We can get them from Kris' parents, though they too have a ton of phone calls. People mean well, and there's so many praying. We'll all be so happy when the Lord's healing is complete!!!!!!! |

Kris has a veterinary degree, and she persuaded Doug to consent to buying a small farm in Baltimore County, MD. Besides cats, they have chickens, horses, and now pigs. Kris loves animals! And she also loves the Lord!!

In another era there would have been no hope outside of a miracle. We count our doctors and surgeons as being miracle makers so often and they are instruments. In this situation, while their skills were put to test, it really feels like His divine intervention brought about recovery to the stage she is in. Over time, I imagine she will have a testimony to share with these beautiful children of hers, and especially the new baby daughter. A lot of make up bonding to do, and no doubt it will be a joy to Kris to spend time with that task. Guessing while she couldn't talk she was doing a lot of praying for her kids. I know a mom's heart. He husband has to be ready to have his family whole and together again too. Hope his family and church is rallying about to help with daily duties. It is tough enough being a doctor or father without doing mother work too. Remember when Laura had her wrist surgery? You probably had a few extra details added to your day until she recovered. He has a new baby! I wish I were there to help. |

9/20/09 Kris' recovery nearly complete now, except for some scar tissue remaining in her lungs. She had a cough last week, and went in for x-rays of her lungs. Nothing serious, just a precaution. We are currently praying her husband doesn't have her doing too much work on her own around the farm. Thanks for asking, Sue! |
