Thoughts on James 4:17

Whoever knows what is right to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

It is not uncommon for us to ignore what we know is the right thing to do. Sometimes it is as simple as not reaching out to the person next to you in the lunchline. What it comes down to is that we can NOT be lazy Christians! God gives us his law, so we need to follow it, even if it means going out of our way to do it. We need to be the salt of the earth. Ignoring the opportunity to go out of your way to do God's will is comparable to a sin.

That's a pretty strong statement. And I am not disagreeing. But I am wondering. I am wondering if you are commenting on behavior you have seen. Perhaps you have seen this trait in others that has awaken in you a need to let others know how the Word speaks to you.

I believe that it can be a simple as I know it is a sin to lie yet I lie. We do the very things we know we ought not to do. It is a sin. But is it a struggle with the flesh or total disobedience?

If I had my choice between God as judge and man as judge I would choose God. He is merciful; and forgiving so long as I truly repent.
