| Let us not panic, but definitely let us take caution |

It's funny to me how many people think I am "freaking out" about the "swine flu". I laugh, because I know that I am quite calm and reassured that God is in control, but I also want to do what I can do provide a safe and healthy environment for my students. As a teacher, I am aware of how many students wipe their noses with their arms, sneeze in each other's faces, cough without covering and give high-fives, thereby spreading the germs even more. I have strategically placed tissues throughout the room and two bottles of hand sanitizer, as well as disinfecting the door knobs and light switch between each class. I have moved desks a little further apart from others to provide a three foot area for each student to sit. They think I'm crazy. I am not running around saying that the world is coming to an end, I am simply telling them that we can take simple measures to try to stay healthy from all illnesses. Do people realize how illness and some diseases are spread, or am I alone here? If we cough or sneeze, your illness becomes airborn. If another person walks through that air or shares your space, they breathe in the infected air. If you touch a surface, it can survive for up to two hours, which means, the next person who touches that surface and touches their mouth, inherits the illness. Simple precautions that we practice daily could help many of our children stay healthier throughout the year. And yet, people think I'm extreme? |
