Very interesting sister Marcia...
John 19:17 is worth reflecting on...
I believe Jesus bore his cross part of the way until he sank with exhaustion...
According to Roman law, the condemned had to carry the instrument of their punishment...
Blessings In Him... :o)

Thank you for your input Brother Herman.

The account given in Matthew, Mark and Luke does not tell us that He carried His cross part of the way.  I believe there is something here that must be researched.  My question is why do we see so many pictures of Jesus carrying His cross when the bible tells us differently?  And the next question is why would they put the cross on this particular man coming out of Africa?  The Webster's dictionary tells us that Cyrene is an ancient Greek city and colony in North Africa. Cyrenaica -  an ancient district in N. Africa West of the present United Arab Republic.

Shalom to you my friend

Because pictures are made to depict the suffering of Christ and most believe carrying the cross would reinforce that...
I do not get caught up in pictures but I do try to search out what the bible says...
Perhaps this man was just handy at that moment and perhaps he looked strong enough to bear the cross...
In John 19:17-18 the words "his cross" and crucified him" mean to me the one and the same - Jesus...
Matthew 27:32 Possible that Jesus carried the cross from the Palace to the gate of the city???

27:32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

Blessings In Him... :o)

I believe that Jesus was so beaten He could not carry His cross as told in the following scriptures:-

Isaiah 53:14 As many were astonished at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men
26:67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote [him] with the palms of their hands,

27:30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

14:65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

15:19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing [their] knees worshipped him.

22:63 And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote [him].

22:64 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?

19:2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put [it] on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,

19:3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

In addition, Jesus had stayed up all night praying.
22:44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

My sweet Holy and Pure Jesus.   He felt all pains of humanity and more because He was praying and interceeding for the entire world.  If we feel so much pain when one of our loved ones dies, could you imagine the pain Jesus felt for trillions of human beings? especially knowng that many would end up in hell.

Shalom to you my friend as we study the Word together., may the Spirit of truth rule our minds and hearts.
