Today bible is verse is James 4:8 well to really grasp this passage you need to read James 4:7-8

So here we go.

James 4:7-8 reads "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded."

To me this passage in James is talking about walking and following Christ. Did you notice in verse 8, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded."
                   If God is far away, He is not to blame. For it's yourself to be blamed. Christ has gave us free will.
Meaning we make the choices in life God does not control us. If you make bad choices in life the further God is. God is always with you, and will always save you, if you accept him. But the father he is away, the harder it is to come back to him and live a good christian life.

                   I also want to touch on the whole passage James: 7-8. Did you also notice that in 7 that the devil flees when you yield totally to God.

                   The devil wants nothing to do with you if you give your life to God. Because the devil will lose the fight for your soul over God. If you walk, and lead a good Christian life. God will help you in anyway.

So I leave you with this to think about. Evaluate your experience with God. Do you live in constant contact? Have you submitted your desires to Him?

Wow I found some type-os ha ha.

But the father he is away, the harder it is to come back to him and live a good christian life.

But the further God is away from you, the harder it is to come back to Him and live a good christian life.

Don't forget, God's not like us humans.  He does not hold grudges.  He's so happy when we turn to Him.  I think that's what John Newton was experiencing when he wrote the words to Amazing Grace.  He was engaged in such horrible crimes against humanity, but by the grace of God turned from his evil ways and found peace and salvation both here on earth and for eternity.  Think of all the people who have been touched by his words.  How many disciples has he made over the years?  But Newton was not able to be good on his own.  He had to allow God's grace to change him, mind body and soul.  Free will and God's grace are two sides to the same coin.  I don't think any of us will understand with our feeble human minds how the two work together.  That's why there were two trees in the Garden of Eden:  the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.  I personally think that the creation story is the point in the earth's evolution that modern humans evolved and became self-conscious.  . .that's a topic for another day:)
