| Why Media? |

It has been some time since I have shared anything on this blog. That is typical of my performance when it comes to writing or journaling or whatever. I get enthusuastic about doing it for a short time then I get lazy and don't keep it up. This has not been true of my pictures and videos though. I have a passion for them for some reason. I think it has to do with wanting to pass something on to future generations. I sometimes go back in time by looking at the old pictures in the albums and cardboard boxes that my wife keeps in the closet. I rather enjoy it. Maybe some day someone will enjoy seeing what was going on at House of Joy on some distant Sunday morning in the past. I sometimes wish I could see the old reel to reel movies that my father-in-law created in his time again. I never really got tired of seeing my wife as a young girl riding on the pony they had or seeing different ones clown around. I video taped a lot of moments and events on VHS tapes when my girls were growing up. Especially the cheerleading stuff that Polly was involved in. I have been transferring tapes of mine and hers over to DVD as the mood hits me. It takes up quite a bit of time to do it right. Of course all of this media is digital now so I hope it will endure the test of time. The only way it will is if it is protected and stored away, kind of like protecting one's heart and storing away God's word. But if it is to be enjoyed or have any future value it must be shared. Somewhere, somehow it all has to be made available to others. And I guess it needs to be presented in an attractive way or others will not be interested in it unless it directly involves them. On the other hand it seems that just about everyone has a digital camera now days and they even take movies on the same device. There is so much stuff online that there is no way one could ever see it all or even want to for that matter. I guess what I am learning, though it has taken me a long time, is that there is no time like the present. It's nice to look back sometimes but the people you care about and care about you that are around you now mean so much more than any of that. God help me to live for today and appreciate all those you have blessed me with. Amen |
