1:4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. 1:6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Paul speaking with Timothy about his ministry, as Paul is concluding his ministry. Paul tells Timothy that he was always praying for him. It really does mean something to have a prayer warrior lifting you up in prayer.Paul was filled with joy over the efforts of Timothy to minister the gospel of the Lord Jesus. Paul had those that laboured together as ministers that were a great disappointment to the Church. Paul calls to Timothy remembrance's how that his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice had an unfeigned faith. Paul knew that Timothy came from a solid christian background from knowing his grandmother and knowing his mother. Some of the greatest known preachers of our times, speak about the faiths of their mothers and grandmother. Billy Graham has spoken a great deal about his mother in sermons, to those that filled major sports arena's through out the world. One of my favorite stories about Billy's mom was as a young boy, Billy's mom took Billy out in the yard to look at some bed linens that were snowed on. The washed white sheets were hanging on the line had dirty spots on them from the snow that had fallen on them. Her lesson was how could white snow make dirty spots of clean white linens? She taught young Billy Graham that pollution like sin often times was brought down in the snow fall causing the dirty stains.Mothers and Grandmothers have way of teaching us valuable lessons. My Mom had several saying that were very good life's lesson. If your going to be dumb, Son your going to have to be tough? You can kid everybody else, but you can't kid yourself, you know when things ain't right. I didn't raise you to be a thief, or a liar, I taught you better than that. God Word taught you better than that." Amen, Mom " Mom use to say, Son don't get above your raising. We came from the Firestone mill village and most of my remembrances of those good ole days were of hard working honest people. Paul told Timothy to stir up the gifts within him by the laying on of hands. Paul says that God hasn't given his people the spirit of fear, but a sound mind. The legacy of a godly Mother has been passed down time and time again. A mom that knows the hearts of her children, it's like God put a device in mom that can tell when you've done something, you shouldn't have done. Mom could read me like a book, she knew the Bible and instilled it in her children. Thank God for a Mom that cared enough to shed tears over her lost children. Thank God for a Mom that had the attitude with God don't let my children die lost, and sought God with all her heart. I thank God for a Mom that I believe is waiting on me in heaven. |
