| What Would Jesus Do At An Abortion Clinic? |
|
| |
Would Jesus be standing outside an abortion clinic holding a sign protesting abortion? Would He try to stop anyone going in, with words of love? Would He go inside with them as they killed an unborn child? Would He hold their hands and let them cry on His shoulder while the deed was being done? Would He go home with them and comfort them afterwards? Would Jesus try to encourage someone on the way in to the abortion clinic, to not have it done, to think on it, and then when that same person goes ahead and goes through with it, how would He treat them on their way out of the clinic? Would He shout insults at them? Throw things at them? Turn His back on them?
A story was told to our Sunday School class this past Sunday about a woman who had a friend who wanted her to go with her to an abortion clinic, while she had an abortion. The woman tried to talk her friend out of going through with it, but her friend's mind could not be changed. Rather than turn from her, this lady went along with her to the clinic and was there for her during the abortion.
On their way into the clinic, a group of Christian protesters tried to talk her out of going through with it. Telling her to go back home and think about it for another 24 hours. They were nice and loving to her, trying to encourage her to not have the abortion. But, she still went into the clinic, still had the abortion.
When she was leaving, those same people who were loving to her on the way in, turned ugly on her way out, after the abortion. They called her names, threw things at her. This girl now feels totally turned off toward Christians in general for their two faced actions.
It made me question what Jesus would do. I don't think He would act like these people did when the girl left the clinic. Yet, I know He would indeed be angry and sad at the senseless death of a little one. That said, is it right for us to react this way to someone who does something so vulgar, so wrong, by yelling obscenities at them, and throwing things at them as they leave the clinic, after the abortion is done? How can we justify those actions as being what Jesus would do? Going a step further, there have been people who have blown up abortion clinics...how is that any better than the taking of innocent lives through abortion? All those mothers who are in there for an abortion will die in the blast, and that means their unborn children as well. How is taking that sort of a stand helping the overall situation?
I get so angry sometimes when I see the actions of Christians, and how they do not represent God in the right light. We all make mistakes, and I cannot say that I don't feel anger towards people who have abortions, but somehow, we have to put aside our anger and our distaste, because we may be the ONLY glimpse anyone has of God. Those that go through with an abortion do not have the Holy Spirit in them. I do, and I may be the only way that they will ever have the Holy Spirit, and stop committing the acts that found them at the abortion clinic in the first place.
A safe bet is that if your actions do not build up someone else, and overflow with the love of God, then they are probably not the right actions. If what you are doing is knocking down, spreading hate, causing violence, do you think that is what Jesus would do? No, I would never encourage someone to have an abortion. But neither would I treat them with disrespect, or hatred if they go through with it. I just don't think it is what Jesus would do, and therefore, I shouldn't either. |

[star!] | Amen, I agree with you 100%. I have known people to mess up royally but I don't treat them any different than I normally would. That is just the way I am. Just like when I was in the world I would hate you the same way I would anyone else. Yes there were time I showed acts of mercy and kindness and compassion but I was more likely to kick your teeth in. Christ removed all of that from me so much so that even though someone will make poor choices I will not judge them or condemn them. I will let them know that I may not agree with what they have done but that should not get in the way of my love for that soul. |

Denise and Marcella, thank you for the stars!!!
Prophet Jay, I always value your comments. And you have hit the nail on the head again. I don't think that anything that we can do can get in the way of the love Jesus has for us. And aren't we blessed for that!
Steve, wow, thank you! |

| Hi-5's Deb for this wonderful blog on Abortion.
Sometimes Christians show their true personalities regardless of considering what Jesus would do in the same scenario.
I am guilty of trying to fix my "lost" family members but know it is beyond my ability. God knows my intentions and I pray that those lost turn to him.
God Bless* |

[star!] | I was the woman getting an abortion & now I'm the Christian. I think that believers who are doing this need to go read John 8. Sin is sin, and how dare they pick up a stone and throw it at her? I'd love to ask them if they ever talk evil of anyone ever...or ever lose their cool, or worry! Yep, worry's a sin. So really, we all pick up stones and throw them at each other sometimes, and people who don't even know Christ, but this story kinda jumps out at ya, doesn't it? Don't treat the sinner with anything less than compassion & love. The woman in John 8 was caught in the very act of adultery, yet Jesus didn't sit there and tell her how wrong she was (she knew!) or judge her, when He was the only One that could have! |

[star!] | I believe some people become so fixated on their "cause", even if it's a Godly one, that they lose sight of the Lord in it all. That's the only reason I can think of why someone claiming to do God's work would become abusive to the ones he died to save. |

Awesome post, we are to judge the sin not the sinner, we all fall short of the glory of God... which of us is without sin cast the first stone... None of us should throw stones, because we're all sinners... I don't agree with abortions, but that doesn't mean I can't befriend someone who has had one... Most of them live with emptiness afterwards, and feel they are lost... we need to show them there is forgiveness for all who ask... Thanks for sharing this post... God bless |

Lynne, I have been known to try to "fix" things, when I should be letting God do it. We should all think before we speak and act, and ask ourselves what the right way to do things is, and to seek God's guidance in everything. Often though, we jump in with reactions rather than thought out action. Thanks for your comments!
Lara, you are so right. We are all guilty...or else, we wouldn't need Jesus. I hope that given the opportunity, I would love like Jesus would, but there might be a time when I don't do what should come naturally.
Jade, thanks for the star...
Cheryl, thank you for your comments...
Mike, you are correct, a lot of times we get lost in our causes that we lose sight of the people we are trying to help and their feelings. I think we all need to take stock of our actions and why we are doing them.
Marilyn, you bring up a valid point...most people don't think about what those women go through after an abortion. I am sure that their emotions must be off the charts. How many go on with their lives, only to realize the extent of what they did years later? Then they have to work through that. Taking a life is not something that should be done without thought, it has to affect most of the women in some way, shape or form. Thanks for your comments! |
