2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, [so] walk ye in him: 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. ..> ..>..>..> | | Colossians 2:6 - 7 | ..> ..>..>..> | Colossians 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. I like to joke about what I call "The first time I got saved" The pastor preached a powerful message, and when he finished he asked "who would like to join the church" and at that time, both I and my cousin both stood up, and made a "decision" for Christ. A few days later I received a phone call saying "Brother Lewis, we'd like you to know we are having a tent meeting this weekend and ask all members to be in attendance". Unfortunately the last place I wanted to be on Friday or Saturday evening was a church tent revival, yet I made a decision to serve the Lord or did I? That happened in 1992, and it wasn't until 1997 that I even came close to stepping into a church, if Jesus had come back April 7 th 1997, I would have been lost forever, because it wasn't until April 8 th 1997 that I truly had a change of heart to serve Jesus forever, not just because I needed him to get me out of a jam. When we watch crusades on television or even attended them, depending on the crusade we said 100's of people making a decision to serve the Lord, but 2 weeks, 2 months, 2 years later, we have made a decision to not serve the Lord, by not going to church, not picking up a bible, not fellowshipping with other believers. It's usually in these cases that we begin to question the security of our salvation. A good rule of thumb; the closer you are to Jesus the less you worry about your salvation, the further away you are from Jesus, the more you actually worry about your salvation (not that salvation has changed but the actual worry about it will). So how do we stay close; Colossians 2:6 gives us a nice guide line Colossians 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. - Receive Christ Jesus as Lord; put (keep) Jesus on the throne of your life and walk in Him. To walk in Jesus is to study the life of Jesus, we can't follow what we don't know is leading, not everything we follow is following Jesus.
- get rooted and built up in Jesus; once we know Jesus, get rooted in him, by studying what else is to be known of Jesus through the pages of scripture, in turn we'll be built up by Him, if we sow seeds to know Jesus, we'll be built up knowing Jesus, we wont know everything, but we'll minimize what we don't know.
- as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving; Jesus said "seek ye first the kingdom of heaven and all these things shall be added unto you" Jesus laid out a nice promise, that if we seek him first, everything we need in life will simply be added to us, as a result we will abound in thanksgiving, and not only thank God when He's gotten us out of a jam.
