Today's Word for Monday May 18, 2009 Honesty
Defined by Webster:
Uprighteous; Integrity; Trustworthiness; Truefulness; Sincerity; Frankness; Freedom from deceit or fraud.
"The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them." "I have walked in my integrity. I have also trusted the Lord; I shall not slip."
In the book of Acts, chapter 5, we read the story of Ananias and Sapphira. Satan fueled their hearts with a deceitful plan. They sold a piece of property and brought just a portion of the profits [pretending to be giving it all] to the Apostles as their gift to God. They wanted to be recognized as honest and generous people but they were not what they appeared to be. They were not honest to themselves, the apostles or to God. In Acts 5:4 the author says: "Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God." For this, they paid a terrible price - death.
Parents have the responsibility to set a standard and a lifestyle for their family. We teach our children by example and honesty in our daily walk and talk and what we do and say is watched carefully by our children. If a child is raised in a home situation where their parents and their siblings are not honest, then dishonesty becomes a way of life. Someone once said that honesty means that you will never have to look over your shoulder. This is so true because when one is dishonest they almost always get caught with a conflicting story. There is usually someone who knows the truth. For certain your Heavenly Father knows the truth about all that we do.

Thank you Lord for giving us a standard of honesty that we can use as our guide. I pray that you will give me strength to be honest, consistent and loving today to all that I associate with. May my actions glorify Your name? I pray for my family that each of us will be honest to ourselves, to each other and to You.
