| Just a little bad breath |
|
| |
The other evening I was playing around with my daughter (11) before saying our bedtime prayers. As we played, I discovered that her breath was not smelling very pleasant at the time! However, did our time together cease at that point? Did I banish her until she came back smelling clean and "sanitized"? Did her breath drive me from her presence? No, no, and no! Our fun together, our "communion", was FAR too important to me to let a little unpleasantness interrupt it.
Given that Christ has atoned for our sins, having paid ALL the penalty God's righteousness demands for our whole lifetime's worth of wrongdoing, I see my sin affecting God in a similar way that my daughter's bad breath affected me! Unpleasant, but certainly not enough to interrupt our communion. God has made it pretty clear to me that he'll never leave me or forsake me. If there is a leaver between us, it's me, only me. 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. |

| It is so hard sometimes for us to get it through our heads that God really LOVES us! Don't you think? (Right, Preston?) |

Preston P and I had a delicioso conversation about our Father's love for us last night on my ride home from work and well into feeding dogs and coffee making. Mike you know I can talk! This perfectly illustrates it. I never shyed away from my children with dirty diapers or bad breath or bad temper or brattiness. In fact, just last night my sister said my granddaughter had been kind of bratty with a response to me on her birthday. She had wanted to open a present while her mom was picking up pizza and I told her to wait until her mom got back. She said she was allowed and I repeated that she should wait and she was getting antsy and getting louder about wanting to open it before her mom returned. I felt so much love for her that I while I guided her back to obedience (waiting to open the present) I was enjoying her company and not put off by it like my sister was. I could see her level of maturity and the excitement of the day meant that she was on a going forward and somewhat selfish mode. I also know that there is nothing she could do to make me hate her. I feel such explosive love for her that I was somewhat uncomfortable with my sister's remark about my granddaughter and then had to think about my sister and the level of maturity she is dealing (not a believer ) and well...this Love business has a ripple effect. No man or woman is left out. Keep on loving! |

[star!] | LOL...I loved this Mike (smile)....I thank God for HIS Grace and Mercy.....Surely ALL of our righteousness is as filty rags....and if what we say out of our mouths is not seasoned with the Spirit of the Living God.....It would all be a stench in His nostrils...LOL |

| I smile Mike because my grandson just graced the entire house with, shall we say another kind of odor, but do I love him less? NOOOOOOO. I left a bad odor, bad breath and live a stinking life for years before God(still mess up from time to time) and he still loves me. We are so blessed to have a good father. |

Great point Marilyn, God doesn't expect us to clean ourselves up so much as he does the cleaning when we choose to "allow" him. (The Holy Spirit is the cleaning agent, i.e. God himself, right?) Thanks Jade!! :) Bubbles, I'm a mess! Interestingly he hears my prayers (symbolized by fragrant incense in the OT), and yet is not put off by my stinky breath (misdeeds, usually quickly repented from). Jerry....FUNNY comment!! lol.. MarJay...right on! It's grace and mercy, that's what it is. Thanks for putting your finger on that! higherground(Juanita) - a perfect example! Thanks for sharing that, it really makes the point well. Our relationship (position) isn't threatened at all by our sin, but the QUALITY of our relationship sure can be. |

[star!] | He is still there for us through all the stinkiness and will be until we meet in heaven.. He guides, comforts, cajoles, disciplines and never gives up even when we are being bratty and stinky. Such awesome Love for His children and I praise Him, Worship Him, give Him all the Glory and Honor and I am soooo grateful.
Wonderful analogy Brother.... |

[star!] | Well when you love someone you over look an offense. Love covers a multitude of sin and in this case halatosis...and in our case all of our sins are covered by the love of God. On the lighter side just think of how she puts up with you? Maybe some scruffy wiskers by end of day, maybe a little BO...but that is what makes you you! And she loves you and God loves us! |
