Tonight's Bible study with Jolie was so wonderful. God lined it up perfectly with Proverbs which we started reading yesterday! It was about wisdom. It just so happened today that little Jolie broke 2 commandments, #8 and #9, and as she said, "God definately talked to her about it!" Apparently, all the way to school this morning, she was thinking about the fact that she had stolen a tube of my lipstick from my bathroom and took it to the car with her. Daddy said she was quiet all the way to school. We asked her later if that was when God was talking to her. She said, "Yes, He said, boy are you going to get a big spanking when you get to Heaven." (HAH!) Anyway, back to the story...she left it in the car all day, and put it in her pocket after she got back in the car after school. Then, when she came home, and I saw her with the lipstick on her mouth (and all over her shirt), but before I could say anything, she said, "I got this lipstick out of the treasure box at school!" I believed her, I didn't know about the lipstick yet. Later, when she was getting ready for bed, she came out and said, "Mom, this lipstick fell out on the floor from somewhere..." I knew it was mine, and where it belonged, and I said, "Um, did it fall from your pocket maybe?" She said, "yes, mommy." I said, "Okay, so you broke how many commandments today?" And she said "two". I said, "What were they?" She said, "#8, you shall not steal, and #9, you shall not lie". I said, "How do you feel about that?" She said bad. She got her punishment, she said she was sorry and we lovingly forgave her and we went on with our evening. Then, the Bible study was about WISDOM, and the Proverbs we read were about WISDOM and Enticement (we explained to her that "enticement" is the same as "temptation" and that she had faced temptation this morning when she chose to steal the lipstick. I said, next time something tempts you to steal or do something you know God wouldn't want you to do, think about God's Wisdom, and ask yourself, "What would Jesus Do?" Hopefully, it stuck. ;o)
Warning Against Enticement
8 Listen, my son, to your father's instruction
and do not forsake your mother's teaching.
9 They will be a garland to grace your head
and a chain to adorn your neck.
10 My son, if sinners entice you,
do not give in to them.
11 If they say, "Come along with us;
let's lie in wait for someone's blood,
let's waylay some harmless soul;
12 let's swallow them alive, like the grave,
and whole, like those who go down to the pit;
13 we will get all sorts of valuable things
and fill our houses with plunder;
14 throw in your lot with us,
and we will share a common purse"-
15 my son, do not go along with them,
do not set foot on their paths;
16 for their feet rush into sin,
they are swift to shed blood.
17 How useless to spread a net
in full view of all the birds!
18 These men lie in wait for their own blood;
they waylay only themselves!
19 Such is the end of all who go after ill-gotten gain;
it takes away the lives of those who get it.
