| Day 72 |

The reading for day 72 was Mark 10:1-Luke 1:80.
Chapter 10 of Mark has the story of Jesus blessing the children. How cool would it have been to know that you were one of the kids that got blessed by Jesus in person!? I wonder what kind of blessing it was. Who did these children grow up to be? I think it would be interesting to know, but alas, we don't :( On another note...what do you think the importance was for the parents to bring their childen to Jesus to bless them? Was this a common practice with other teachers? Anybody?
In verses 29 and 30 of chapter 10 Jesus says: 10:29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, 10:30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
I've always wondered what Jesus meant by this because the disciples, as far as I know, never became wealthy. It just hit me that maybe Jesus is talking about the church. You know, whoever does the will of my Father is my mother and sister and brother. What do you think? Is Jesus talking about the church?
In verse 38 of chapter 10...what baptism is Jesus speaking of?
In chapter 11 we see the "triumphal entry" where Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey. Jesus did this to fulfill the scripture that says: 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he [is] just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. What I find interesting are all of the other verses that surround this prophecy. Read chapter 9 of Zechariah and tell me what you think.
Okay I've got a question for ya... In chapter 12 of Mark we see the parable of the "Vine-growers." I know that the owner of the vineyard is God. I know that the slaves that he sends are the prophets. I know that the son is Jesus. Okay...here's where it gets tricky...the vine-gowers are either the people or the leaders of the people. So here's the question...Who or what is the vineyard? 12:9 What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. In Luke chapter 1 the births of John the Baptist and Jesus are foretold. In Luke we see that John is the direct fulfillment of the prophecy in Malachi. So again I will ask...what judgement can be associated with John the Baptist?
In chapter 1 we also have the "magnificat." Everyone knows the story about Mary but who knows the prophecy of Zacharias? You can read it in verses 67-80 of chapter 1. I never hear anyone talking about this...it is beautiful.
