We're Free to Serve a Powerful and Holy God
Now that we are in Christ and have bathed ourselves in His Great Salvation, are we now to continue in our old ways, living selfishly unto ourselves or are we to live a life of holiness and godliness that is well pleasing unto God our Father who loves us and has called us unto the newness of life in Christ Jesus our Lord?
We are called by our Lord to love God with all of our mind, with all of our soul, with all of our heart and with all of our might.
Our Lord said:
14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Loving God is the first and foremost step to pleasing Him. There is a thin line between our love for God and our obedience to Him. Having a rightful relation with God begins with love for Him. Now that we are in Christ, we can love God as we are called.
Obdience comes through our love for God. We will obey Him because we love Him and we will keep and follow His commandments. When we love God our purpose in life is to please Him, to serve Him, and to glorify Him in every thing we do and say.
Now, does a life filled with sin bring glory to God? As you know, we are the children of God and as God's children, who are call unto holiness and righteousness, what shame have we, if we just entertained the idea of committing a sinful act or to behave ungodly? Have we any shame at all? Did God deliver us from the power of Sin so that we can continue in sin? God forbid.
God has freed us form the power of Sin in order that we can now freely serve Him, God Almighty, Holy and True. We are no longer servants of Sin; We are indeed free of its stronghold because of the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus our Lord and Salvior.
We are no longer to live our lives any ol' way that seen fit to us. No. We are the children of God and are called by God to live a life of holiness and godliness.
1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation (in everything you do);
1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Did you not know, that our bodies are not our to do whatever want with it? We have been bought with a price; the precious blood of Jesus. We now belong to Him if we are in Christ.
6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. - Now that we are in Christ, We are not to yeld our bodies as insturments of unrighteousness unto sin; but yeld ourselves unto God.
- We are not to let sin reign in our mortal bodies, that we should obey it in the lust thereof.
- We are to know that our old man is crucified with Christ Jesus, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that from now on, we should not serve sin. (Read Romans 6: 4-13)
Remember, 5:17 Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Think about it. You were called unto Holiness by God our Father.

We are bought with a great price indeed, JR; the precious blood of the Lamb! We, as ambassadors of Jesus Christ, must hate sin and every false way. This, I believe, pleases the Father. If we are to be transformed into the image of his son, (who pleased his Father in all his ways), then we must strive to do the same.
“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal. The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. (2 Ti. 2:19)
We really do need to 'consider' those sinful things that so easily beset us. We need to remember that we are 'new creatures' set apart for God's purposes. 2 Peter 1:3 says that He provides every believer the resources to accomplish his purposes. As long as we submit ourselves to God, He gives us the power to resist! AMEN? AMEN!

One thing to remember is that we can not defeat sin...which is why we need a Savior.
I have always looked at 2 Corin 5:17 as a promise, a hope for tomorrow that as our minds are being transformed, all things are becoming new. The same suffering we had yesterday is new today because we can now see it through God's eyes. The "problem" we had yesterday, we now see as a blessing and count it all joy. God does the changing. We have to immerse ourselves in His love and His word.
Good post. Got me thinking. Thanks. |

Thanks Voice Yep! You are right, we cannot defeat sin in and of ourselves and that is why Christ had come, glory be to God; But now that we are in Christ, we are to walk in Him as he walked. In His love toward us, He had provided everything in Himself that we need to live has He has called us to live. He had destroyed the power of sin for us; so that now, in Christ, we can live freely unto God as God has called us. Yes indeed, God had done it all for us. We are complete in Christ our Lord. We can now rest in Him.
In our love toward Him, we want to live as He had called us to live; we want to serve as He had called us to serve. Praise be to God, because according as His divine power has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness through the knowledge of him that has called us to glory and virture (2 Peter1: 3)
Thanks again, Voice. Great feedback --JR |

Thanks Linda. When I was meditating on the Word of God, I began to think on His first commandment to love God with all of our mind, soul and strength. You know, it all starts with love for God. We must love first, God, before we can love or do anything else. We cannot truly love our families or our neigbors without first loving God. Even our obedience starts with our Love for God.
Thanks again Linda for you powerful input. JR |

| I can tell you really love the Lord JR. Awesome! Thanks for sharing. |

What motivates obedience to God? Love! Ain't that great. Not fear, not striving for status in the church, or high fives from brethren. It's love that motivates us to sacrifice, to hang onto the Holy Spirit as if our lives depended on it.
The sin and holiness themes are so important to consider JR. They are so personal too, both have everything to do with what the Holy Spirit is doing inside each of us. Good blog! ~mike |

| its funny but before i truly became intimate with god...i was able to sin and not feel any guilt, but now that i've gotten a personal realtionship with him, just the thought of me passing up an oppurtunity to be closer to him, hurts my heart. thats when i truly knew that my love for god was real and his love for me is unconditional. |

Thanks Sue, God is our heart and soul in life. When people around us look and hear the things we do and said, they should see and hear God through us because of our love for God.
Thanks again |

Mike you are as always a great motivation force on Mychurch. I really enjoy your inputs and comments. At times you see things and touch things from a different perspective, which I enjoy.
Love is the key, to a right relationship with God. With the love for God comes the willingness of obedience to God. May we all grow in fervant love for God that we too can and will love one another.
Thanks for you comments. |

Reese, thank you for your expressions of Love for God.
You have touched on the process of growing in love with God or maturing in the love for God. Love bring joy to our hearts when we are walking in areas that pleases God. Love also is a sign or fruit that guides us in our daily walk of Faith. It keeps our relationship with God strong and secures our hearts and confidence.
Thanks again Reese for sharing one of your many love experiences with God. |

You Got it J.R. I enjoyed it, I'm not finished yet. I see there's lots more to read. I agree with this blog. We need to get serious about serving God. Holiness, holiness, holiness is right. That's the word, the what my bible says. Without holiness no man can see God. KJV tells it like it is. You keep letting your light shine, God is getting the Glory. |

Thank you Sista Nada for your words of encouragement. Our Father who is in Heaven has given all things pertaining to life and godliness. Only in Christ is God satisfied; only in Christ is He truly glorified. We must in all things remain in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. Frist loving God then loving one another; encouraging, edifying, sharing the love of God in the unity of the Faith. May God bless everyone of us with His wisdom, knowledge and understanding that we walk in the unity of the Faith in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Sista Nada, you have blessed me with you comments and support. Thanks again. --JR |
