34:19 Many [are] the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. May 25, 2009 Hi friends, Some of you know about the fire we had in the condo building a few weeks ago. I praise God that we are safe and that no one in the building was hurt! Thus far, we are pleased with the strata council's insurance company. They are being courteous and fair and they will replace the ceilings and carpets. They have already ripped out all the ceilings and the old carpeting and underlay. This is a huge blessing & an answer to prayer and I give God all the praise and glory. I thank you also for your prayers.
On the personal insurance side, we continue to have our challenges. Though we asked for the insurance adjuster to be changed and he was, we are still not getting fair treatment. I surmise that the new adjuster (and perhaps the former one) are merely following orders. They tell us that their company policy is to clean everything, not to replace it. This is clearly not in their brochures or documents given to me. In fact, "replacement" is clearly printed on the various documents. When you read my brother's blog (below) and the short video he has prepared, you will see clearly why cleaning and replacement is simply not acceptable or even practical. We are prepared to "fight" this issue until it gets resolved properly. We are only asking for fairness and payment of what we have "bought" into with our insurance policy. We ask for your continued prayers until this matter is resolved. Thank you so much!
Did you buy personal home insurance thinking that in case of an emergency your damaged goods would be replaced? Were you under the impression that your insurance company would ease your burden in a time of need? All those insurance commercials make you feel like if something happened somebody like "Oprah" would have your back.
Well, I have found out the hard-way that Wawanesa says they only clean, not replace and that they "hope I understand". Instead of replacing: they have offered to wash my clothes, clean my furniture, and for the kicker... clean my electronics including two computers that have all been flooded-out by a brown-toxic liquid that emanated from the result of a fire two-floors above my condominium's suite that collected all the toxins between two floors of drywall, fibre-glass insulation and god knows what else.
All the ceilings are destroyed and all the flooring has been removed due to extensive water damage. But remarkably according to the first Insurance-adjuster everything can be cleaned nothing needs to be replaced. "Nothing is ruined" "everything can be washed or cleaned". This assessment was made after walking two-feet in the door and not checking a single room. After the "everything can be cleaned" grand-proclamation the-now-replaced-adjuster had the temerity to ask... what is the damage from? He had no idea about the fire/flood but could make this snap determination that everything was fine even while having to shout over the six industrial fans and de-humidifiers that had been going for a solid 36 hours.
So let's recap: ceilings destroyed, flooring destroyed but miraculously nothing in between is damaged enough to be replaced. Wawenesa, are not responsible for the floors and ceiling. The strata insurance covers the structure hence the contrasting admission that all floors and ceiling need to be replaced. I have no doubt that if Wawanesa were in charge of the structure it would have been steam-cleaned like my computer perhaps with some distilled water for extra-effect.
Photos and video with audio to come. My now returned, crash-prone and may I add; very- clean computer is not accepting the fire-wire to download the video not to mention the litany of other issues with my other electronics.
8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God [be] for us, who [can be] against us? Amen! June 11, 2009 Saints, I want to report that after prayer and much behind the scenes to'ing and fro'ing we have at last had word today from the insurance company that my brother's computer will be fully replaced. As late as yesterday he was told that only the motherboard would be replaced. But through your prayers, I believe the Lord has given my brother the wisdom and creative ideas to move this issue forward in a professional way and get what is just and fair. Yesterday after being denied for about the 10th time by the insurance adjuster, my brother met with the Claims Divisions Manager and laid out the business case and facts. He was asked to put everything in writing and email it which he did and by today we were called by the adjuster with the approval. Praise God! You will remember that I had said earlier that we intend to fight for what is just and fair. This is victory in round two. The first round was approval for carpet replacement throughout my condo. Yipee! God is so good....we have a few more issues to resolve but they are not as big in the scheme of things. I want to thank you for all your prayers and to encourage you to hang in there for whatever battle you are facing. Do not be discouraged but press forward in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for all of us -- how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:31b-32 NIV) Praise His Name!
