We have three things that God has blest us with that we can give. We can give of our TIME, TALENT and RESOURCES. As Parents we need to give of our time and talent to our children. In addition to giving to our children and family God has clearly stated in His Word that we have a responsibility to give to those who are hurting.
Down through the years we have found that you can never out give God. We have always attempted to give cheerfully and generously of our time, talent and resources. And as we did, we found that God always supplied all of our needs and so much more. It was important that we taught our children this principle as they were growing up by our words and our deeds.
As they now are on their own and training their families, many times we have witnessed our children give so generously of their time, talent and resources responding to the needs of others. When someone is in need our children always are among the first to be there and help. When someone needs counsel they are there. When someone needs help, they are there. When someone just needs a friend, they are there.
God blesses those who give. It is a principle that very few experience because many put getting their "THINGS" before honoring their Lord with giving. There is a desire for most people today to get all they can as fast as they can.
The Bible has numerous references about how we should give. These principles refer to our giving of our TIME, TALENT AND RESOURCES. God wants our time and talents shared with others just as much as wanting and expecting our resources. Some of these principles are as follows.
When we give sparingly, we will reap sparingly. Some of us give just enough to get by or possibly just enough to satisfy our conscience. When we give bountifully, we will reap bountifully. How many times have you given a lot and then experienced the joy of giving as you saw the results?
When we do a charitable deed [Matthew 6:3-4], we are not to do it to please others or to do it so others know and then we get the glory. The scripture says that we are not to let our left hand know what our right hand is doing.
One should give cheerfully and not grudgingly. Recently a friend said to me that he was just tired of giving to his church because he could not see any results. Possibly his attitude affected others as they gave as well - grudgingly.
And the verse in Luke 6:38 [above] reminds us that God will bless us with the same measure that we give to Him. What a wonderful promise. ONE CANNOT OUT GIVE GOD!

Give us this day a new spirit of giving. I thank you dear God for the great gift you gave in the person of Your Son Jesus Christ. And I am so grateful for His death and resurrection that paid the penalty for my sins so that I can have eternal life. Thank you for all that you have given me. Help me to willingly give of my time, talent and resources to help others. Make my life a blessing to others.
