7:37 In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 7:38He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet [given]; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) The Passover is coming to a conclusion, Jesus stood up and cried out. There has to be something very important that the Son of God would cry out. I don't think that this was a natural thirst just for water. Jesus was well aware that the spiritual man of those that attended the passover was lacking. The message was a simple little "let him come to me". It was more than just coming to Jesus, can you image all the masses of people that just came to Jesus, yet were not changed. Jesus stop feeding the masses and they went away in John chapter 6, Jesus ask his disciples would they go away also. He that believes on me as the scripture hath said, it's more than believing about him. The Bible says the devil believes about Jesus, they knew his name when Jesus encountered them possessing people. The name of Jesus has been reduced to a formula in some places, they spoke the name of Jesus to a possessed man in the book of Acts. The demon spirits acknowledged, they knew Jesus and the Apostle Paul, but these brothers of Sceva had no relationship with Jesus. The demons came out of this individual and inhabited these brothers that believed on the formula not the Saviour. Back to what Jesus said about those that believe on him, for out of their bellies shall flow rivers of living waters. This experience was actually the out pouring of the Holy Ghost that fell on them that tarried in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost. The infilling of the Holy Ghost changed the way people experienced God. Look at Peter before the rivers of living waters flowing from his inter-most, He denied the Lord three times and even cursed that he knew not the Lord in his denial. Peter cut a man's ear off in his ambition to please the Lord, in other word Peter fell all over himself trying to please God in the flesh. After Pentecost, Peter stands and addresses the folks that assembled after the out pouring. We find that Peter becomes a pillar that influences the New Testament church, Peter has a hand in ministering unto the Gentiles. It's important to note that God will only pour out His Spirit on those that will receive it. God will not force, you to receive the Holy Ghost, there has to be a hunger and a thirst for God to infill people. There was another individual in the book of Acts that wanted to purchase from Peter the ability to lay hands on people and them receive the Holy Ghost. Peter's reply was that you and your money will perish for this is the gift of God, bestowed upon those that hungered and thirsted for more of God. If one desires a deeper walk and a closer relationship with the Lord, get hungry and thirsty.
4:7There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 4:8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) 4:9Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. 4:10Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 4:11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 4:12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? 4:13Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 4:14But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Jesus meets up with a woman from Samaria without a bucket or a water dipper desiring to give her something to drink. This was not one of the people that Jesus sent his disciples out two by two to minister unto. There was a division among these of Samaritans and the Jews that would not allow them to socialize with each other. There were generations of hard feelings between these groups of people that stem back to Israel possessing the promised land. Jesus gets into a conversation by simply asking for a drink of water, the woman gets offended that a Jew would ask a drink of water from one from Samaritan. The real thirsty one in this is the one that has the means to satisfy the natural thirst but not the spiritual thirst. This woman does something that all lost people need to do, and that was to hear from the Lord. Jesus reveals to her the real need is for her to drink of the water that Jesus can supply. How does one get saved that don't realize the fact that their lost? Jesus had to show this woman, The water that he spoke of was greater than anything, she could dip out of Jacob's well. Jesus goes on to tell her that those that thirst and partake of his water will never thirst again, in that they will receive eternal life. Are you thirsty, the offers still the same to let him that is thirsty come and drink of the waters of life freely. God has done his part in providing for those that are truly hungry and thirsty. God won't disappoint you, if you come seeking him with all your heart. I've searched from cover to cover and I haven't found anywhere, God ever turned away anyone that had a real hunger or a thirst for God. |
