| If you knew the gift of God |

4:10 Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water." What I like about this verse is it takes me back to the beginning. If we look back to Genesis 1:27 we are back when God created man, "Adam". God made man very intelligent, he gave names to all the animals that came before him. He knew and spoke with our Lord God and God spoke with him. God gave him work to do and He explained the things of the garden, what Adam could and couldn't do. He was told by God, before or after Eve was made ,NOT to eat of the "Tree of Knowledge" . We also see how happy he was to have Eve made for him. We can see from the things he said that his wisdom was still there. Things like he knew they would be able to reproduce children, Gen 2:24 - "man shall leave his mother and father". He had to already know of child birth. We also see he had to know something about death, Gen 2:17 - "you shall surely "die". Would God tell Adam things he couldn't fully understand, no!!. God shows us how man changed after his disobedience (sin). Adam and Eve were both naked after her creation and they both were comfortable with it. They both talked with God or they both heard God speak. Different theologies believe different things. Was Eve there when God told Adam "not to eat of the tree of Knowledge" or was she told by Adam ? The point here is, Eve knew God and knew He was God. I believe God made her with the same intelligence as Adam, "bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh". Their weakness seemed to be reason and logic. Satan used their weakness against them. My point to all this is to show how Adam and Eve changed after their sin. We are first shown they now know what being naked is. They feel different things like shame, embarrassment and fear. These are things never spoken of before the sin. They also lost the connection they had with God. They tried to hide from God when they hid in the bushes. We are also shown Adam had a full understanding of what he was told by God. He never used the lie of "I didn't fully understand your instructions". He also chose not to blame God for what he did because he now feared God. (he hid from God). They both wanted to blame someone else for the sin they committed but they couldn't blame God. It's from this point on, man lost the connection to God he once had. The woman at the well didn't know who Jesus was or what He was. Our God came to this Earth and walked among us and we didn't have the ability to recognize Him. Mankind lost the most precious gift we once had, we were able to know, walk with and talk with our God and creator. Now life for many people is all about what feels good and who "I" am. Please always remember, we are now different from what was created in the beginning. Without Jesus Christ being our savior we are forever damned. Every morning we go to our cars to head to work. Some of us have more faith the car will start than we have Faith that Jesus came to die for our sins and rose on the third day. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. I pray God will bless some with this and many will see His Glory......Aman |
