24:15And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua ask a simple question to a group of people that had seen the power of God manifested many times in coming into the promised land.Joshua has to refresh the children of Israel's memory of how, it was God that brought them to where that are now located. These are the same people that cried out to God for deliverance from Pharaoh's brick yards. How quickly folks forget, how the Lord blessed them? Pharaoh didn't send the flesh pots with the children when they left Pharoah's employment. Joshua reminded the children of Israel of all the different nations that God had already given them victories over in marching into the land of promise. We need to come face to face with God, I've found so many times in life that God becomes a bail out bucket. Israel while things were going good and the enemies were kept at a distance, got their eyes of God and started looking at what these ungodly nations had an became covetous of them. Israel is not real sure leaving the protection of Pharaoh was a good idea, did you know that you can be come comfortable even in bondage. Serving Pharaoh was not that bad, because even time "they came to a bump in the road they wanted to go back to Egypt". I know people that have a form of Pharaoh in a can or in pill form, everytime there's a bump in the road. I guess, Joshua had got his fill of hearing how good it was in Egypt, if it seems evil unto you to serve the Lord. Choose you this day whom you will serve, Joshua said, it's time to make up you minds. There was no middle ground then, there is no middle ground now, there won't be an middle ground in the here after. The middle ground where one can be on both sides of the fence at the same time don't exist. You've got to serve somebody, it might be the devil by default but you are serving somebody. Israel like America has people that just can't make up their minds. Jesus said, you cannot serve two masters, it's decision day. Elijah cried out how long halt you between two opinions? If Baal be god serve him? If God be God then serve him? The contest was set up for the real God to answer by fire. Baal could not even send smoke or anything that would make you to believe there was any fire in him. But the Almighty God that Elijah served sent down fire that consumed a water soaked sacrifice because Elijah knew God would answer by fire. Joshua said, For me and my house we will serve the Lord. Joshua had made up his mind even when they spied out the land and found giants and 10 spies said it's impossible to take the land because of the giants. Joshua and Caleb said, we are well able to possess the land. Unbelief keep them out until those fearful people died out in the wilderness. Have you made up your mind that you and your house will serve the Lord? Does being left behind when Jesus comes appeal to you? Get on board, the glory bound train. |
