16:31 The hoary head is a crown of glory; It shall be found in the way of righteousness.
Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life. according to the NIV.
Of course that does NOT mean that all elderly gray haired folk are righteous.
I have decided to grow out my hair. I just finger scooped it into an elastic band as I am about to dig into some chores and want it out of my way. It is long enough for a 3 inch ponytail. Anyone laughing? :) I am. I have been graying at a faster pace than my mother. After Landon died it accelerated, no lie, hugely accelerated. I colored my hair since age 18 for fun but after grands came, just decided that I did not want to anymore. Please don't take that as condemnation from me if you do, I just chose to stop. I cut my hair short, I used temporary rinses and cut repeatedly until it was gone and my natural color was all that existed. I maintained that and now, my goal is to grow my hair out to a single LONG gray braid down my back. We will see, as time plays out, I may hate it.
Why am I telling you? Well, it just crossed my mind that it is a point of acceptance of the age that I am and I was listening to some coworkers speak of the expense of their hair care, getting it colored and cut monthly and who they used and how much time it took (only 3 hours) and again PLEASE do not take it as condemnation, but I thought that this is time and money I can use for eternal purposes instead.
I am taking a look around at OTHER time and money wasters in my life. I want to see what I can pare down and used wisely as a steward for eternal things.
For me that will be a long gray braid. It isn't a pain for me anyway. My long denim skirts and baggy tee shirts will certainly fit the image perfectly with it.
Love you for listening to me blather. Love you hugely. juanita mae |

[star!] | lol I love you!!! I am counting on Jesus returning before I gotta go through all that dying hair stuff. I am a low maintenance chick, so it's not my thing, plus yeah, the $$. This past birthday was the very FIRST time I ever spent that much on a hair cut and color in my life. Never had a professional color job before. It was a treat from my hubby, and it was fun b/c it's such a novelty, but I wouldn't want to have to do that every month. ugh lol My mom's hair is super duper long and straight and graying, and so I guess I"m used to that, and she still looks younger than most women her age except black women who age the best. :) |

| Hi Juanita. I don't have much expense to do hair-care. Why? Because my hair don't care, and is in desperate need of a re-seed - cos it receeding. Mind you, if I grew a beard and turned my head upside down, I'd have more on me chin than I'd have on me head. Can I swap your 3 inches for my no inches? ROTFLOL!!! |

Hey it's your hair and you enjoy it however you like there are many women who have the problem of thining hair and would be pleased if they also could grow a long grey braid or as we say pigtail lol . I would love long hair but have it short as I just don't suit it any other way with my specs.and it's a right mixture of colours I always say I don't need high-lights as every other hair is grey lol |

*giggling here* When I met up with CindyLou, Sugg, Princess Ken & Rebel, we got in a discussion about hair color -- coz mine (if left undyed) has a HUGE white skunk stripe slightly off center. Yep, I'll be dyeing it for a while yet -- at least until I'll no longer look like a skunk. LOL! I do lose enough hair each day that I could come up with a nice toupee for Stevie Bee in a fairly short amount of time. ;-D |

| Thanks GrammyB. I HAVE got hair on me head, its just that when people take pictures of me, you can't see it. As I've often said to people, God so loves my face - He's making room for another one, LOL!!! |

[star!] | Lots of good things here Juanita and of course to each their own. I do not go to someone to get my hair taken care of. But, that is my thing... But it appears that you have learned some things from this and have made some prorities and this is good. Luv & Hugs Neice! Aunt Audrey |

I love all these comments, as they are straight from your hearts. Stevie always ready to poke fun at himself...Lara raw and real....GrammyB being GrammyB...skunkstripe...lol....Liz someone asked me who highlighted my hair, said God did....and Aunt Audrey with your wild and wonderful Palmer Red hair henna enhanced as the years roll by, you are frugal and God fearing and MEANT to wear that Red so aptly taken from your daddy's name. For those who don't know, Audrey is my mom's elder sister and their dad had the red hair that passed down. His name was Lawrence Russell Palmer. Russell means RED. It makes me smile to think of you with your auburn locks representing him.
Another cool tidbit...due to a bridge out, My grandfather delivered Aunt Audrey and her birth certificate shows his name as the midwife. Way cool huh? |

| Really! My first husband wanted to deliver our son but I was not about that at all. I was 5 weeks early to start with so wasn't in the frame of mind and he refused to even attend lamaze so didn't feel like I should allow him to deliver my child. |

[star!] | That long gray braid will be beautiful. I had never colored my hair until now (58 years old). I miss my gray hair but I'm also loving my new look, I guess it feels right on my new journey. I had the most gray in my family of my mom and two older sisters. Well my gray poney tail wad 12 inches long and one day it will be back, just not yet :) |

[star!] | My mother was part Cherokee. She always wore her hair in two braids up untill she was around 70. Then she cut it and wore it short. When I was a kid, my dad called her Squaw. Thats how everybody remembers her still today. As for me, my mom always said gray hair represented wisdom. Probably why she wouldn't color hers. As for me, right now, I am very wise, But soon, that wisdom will be gone. For it's Miss Clairol to the rescue. GrammyB, I could use some of that hair if Stevie Bee don't need it. I am getting tired of mine falling out. |

[star!] | I think it is a great idea. I always wanted to be a roller skated Granny with a long braid down my back.
My Grandma in Kentucky had hair past her waist. She wore it up on her head. I remember seeing her take it down... it was braided. She undid that long, long braid and brushed it... 100 strokes. She told me that if you didn't wash your hair you would get bugs in it. I'll never forget that.
I keep trying to grow mine out, but it is thick and I get hot and end up pulling it back from my face in with a bandana or somethin. If I had a braid, I wouldn't have to worry. My hair is going white. Don't think I will get a gray braid. |

| I had not realized you began coloring your hair Terry but as I said, everyone needs to choose for themselves, NO CONDEMNATION in it. I just opted not to and I am learning to embrace my age of 52 and loving Jesus in my aging signs. He said when I was to be born and he chose where and to my parents. He chose my hair color, eye color and blessed me with children I love and a husband who just gets better everyday, and I mean everyday. He blessed me this morning with words of love that were personalized and not just mouthing something on the run. It was pointed at something he loves about me. I am not kidding when I say I am getting my socks blessed off even in the midst of the trials. |

[star!] | My hair is gray & short & I earned every one of those gray hairs. LOL Actually to me it still looks blonde, however; my niece (when I made the statement about my hair color) asked me "What color is moms hair?" I said "Gray" & she informed me that was the color of my hair. My sister had let her hair go natural a few years before she passed. |

[star!] | You N Me are like peas n a pod! I'm gonna let my long gray hair flow out from my pig-tails way up on my head free in the wind as I cruise down the street blasting old time gospel from my tweeters as I sing to the Lord at the top of my lungs! Won't that turn heads? (It will have to be loud enough for me to hear...teeheehee ;o) Grow old with grace...or maybe not..hahaha |

| It's short, Joey. In fact, it is so thick I can not let it grow long. I attempt to get it cut once a month. When I wasn't working I would let it go for 2 months, it didn't grow long, just thicker. |

I checked, Panda. You have wonderful hair. I would love to run my fingers through it. Jewlz... I want to grow old, but I have never been very graceful. I want to have fun. Plain old fashioned fun. I can buy a cap with a braid on it. |

[star!] | Lovely thoughts Juanita! Giving up "outward beauty" in favor of ministry to others' needs...lovely! Well, like Stevie, I don't have much to give up in this area. In fact, I even cut my own hair, so I ain't wastin much money at all on my "crown of glory", lol.
ps... I just love your blogs Juanita Mae. In fact, now that subscriptions have been restored, I'm going straight to subscribe to you! |
