10:45 For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
This verse implies a seriously under appreciated situation.
First, it implies that although Jesus knew who He was, He humbled Himself to care more for others than Himself.
Secondly, it implies that God's children haven't merely lost their way, but have been kidnapped! That's serious. I mean, a ransom is something that is demanded by a kidnapper to keep him from harming his hostage.
You may be thinking, "O yes, Satan is such an awful kidnapper." But that's not the kidnapper this passage is referring to. We've all been kidnapped by sin. That's what threatens to harm us unless Someone who is able pays the ransom. And sins demand is death, which only Jesus can pay and remain unscathed.
What a cool thing He has done for us, in while we were held captive by sin, and happy to remain there, Jesus rescued us from the death we were sure to face.
